Halloween Fun!

 

Halloween is a time for fun and frights. Oh, and lots of candy, too! Find a costume and make your way to one of these special holiday events in Rockland County, NY.

 

 

 

 

Not-So-Spooky Film: Bring your toddler for some Halloween fun with a film and a craft. FREE. October 8 and 22, 10:30am and 1pm, at the Rose Memorial Library, 61 East Main Street, Stony Point. 845-786-2100. www.rosememoriallibrary.org.

The Mystery of the Bones: Halloween is as good an excuse as any to think about bones and skeletons. Come to the Flat Rock Brook Nature Association to look at bones and learn what they reveal about what animals eat and how they live. Pre-registration by mail is required. Boo at the Zoo: Celebrate Halloween with the animals at the Bear Mountain Zoo. October 30, 10:30am. $8 parking per car. Bear Mountain State Park and Zoo, Palisades Interstate Parkway Exit 19 or Route 9W, Bear Mountain. 845-786-2701. www.nysparks.state.ny.us/parks.

Spooks: Rockland Lake State Park’s newly-restored nature center hosts a celebration for young "spooks." Children are invited to come in costume for a haunted trail, magic tricks, music, storytelling, a "creepy" science program, face-painting, crafts, a children's costume parade, and a bike ride around the lake. October 30-31, 12pm; Saturday only, hear the Bossy Frog perform at 2pm. $8. Rockland Lake State Park, Route 9W, Congers. 845-268-3020.

Spook-tacular Spiders: Learn about spiders before meeting a few impressively large live arachnids and making a spider craft to take home, at the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum's Outdoor Discovery Center. $5. Haunted Were-House: Hudson Vagabond Puppets and the Gaga Arts Center have joined forces to present a benefit Halloween festival in the landmark brick factory turned arts complex in Garnerville. The festival will feature a haunted house, a Boo House for younger children, music, storytelling, pumpkin carving, hot apple cider, and holiday treats.
