Halloween seems to creep into stores earlier and earlier each year, but the time is finally here to celebrate this fun and irreverent holiday. Halloween 'Dress Rehearsal' Party
Disney Store in Palisades Center, West Nyack
Young trick-or-treaters are invited to come dressed as their favorite Disney character (or otherwise) for a special party and parade in advance of Halloween. Kids can also enjoy crafts and treats. Ages 3 and older only. FREE!
Munchkin Monday Halloween Event
Palisades Center, West Nyack
The Palisades Center and Rockland Parent magazine host a special Halloween party with none other than the Bossy Frog Band. Kids are encouraged to come in costume and there will be plenty of giveaways and candy handed out.
Too Cute to Spook
New Jersey Children's Museum, Paramus, NJ
This Halloween party for toddlers and preschool-aged kids will feature special appearances by characters such as Dora, Spiderman, Jake and the Neverland Pirates, princesses, Tinkerbell, and more. There will be trick-or-treating, hand and face painting, pumpkin decorating, entertainment by DJ Polka Dot, unlimited playtime in the museum, and pizza dinner sessions.
Bergen County Zoo, Paramus, NJ
The zoo opens its doors for trick-or-treaters and special nighttime visits with the animals. The Erie Express haunted train ride starts at 6:30pm. (Train ride is not recommended for young children).
Halloween Story Time
Barnes & Noble, West Nyack
Kids are invited to come in costume to listen to a reading of Go Away, Big Green Monster by Caldecott Award-winning author-artist Ed Emberley. Children chase away their nighttime fears by turning the pages of this die-cut book and watching as the Big Green Monster growa. Then, when they're ready to show him who's in charge, children can turn the remaining pages and watch him disappear. FREE!
26th Annual Nyack Halloween Parade
Main Street, Nyack
Dancing ghouls, marching bands, floats, stilt walkers, and giant puppets are all part of the action at this major annual event. Festivities begin at 3pm with music in the municipal parking lot. At 4pm, parade participants assemble at Memorial Park. And at 5:30pm, the parade steps off along South Broadway, beginning at Cedar Hill Avenue, to Main Street, then west on Main Street to Franklin Ave. Prizes are awarded for best costumes and best floats. Immediately following the parade, don't miss Nyack Center's Monster Mash, with live music, dancing, and a dinner buffet for kids of all ages. FREE!
'I Spy' Halloween Nature Trail
Hudson Highlands Nature Museum Outdoor Discovery Center, Cornwall
Take to the nature center's trails to find some spooktacular objects cleverly hidden along the way. Kids can also enjoy Halloween crafts and a "creepy critter room."
Monster Mini Golf, Nanuet
Festivities include candy and Halloween bag giveaways. There will also be prizes for the scariest and most creative homemade costumes. For families who wish to stay and play golf after the parade, Monster Mini Golf features an interactive DJ who entertains the golfers throughout their stay. FREE!
Palisades Center, West Nyack
Don't be spooked by bad weather. Young trick-or-treaters can safely collect candy in the cozy comfort of the mall at this annual event. Separately, Halloween photos will be available from 4-8pm in the H&M court. FREE!
