Passover dishes, sader dishes, holiday foodCelebrate Passover

With these family-friendly events and activities:

Gather in the JCC kitchen to mix up matzah ball soup, charoset, matzah brei, chocolate-covered matzah, and other holiday treats. March 14 at 2pm. All ages. $55 per family.

Parents, grandparents, and toddlers are invited to learn about the Jewish holiday of Passover at Circle of Chai, with arts and crafts, stories, snacks, and songs. March 25 at 4pm. FREE.

Then enjoy a special, family Chocolate Passover Seder. The table will be topped with green M&Ms for parsley, chocolate milk as wine, and other treats. Participants can make their own chocolate-covered matzah to take home. March 25 at 6pm. All ages. $12 per person or $46 per family.

Alice Returns

Johnny Depp stars as the Mad Hatter and Mia Wasikowska is Alice, when Alice in Wonderland opens on March 5 at the Palisades Center IMAX Theater in West Nyack. On March 12, kids and families are invited to celebrate the opening of the film with a Mad Hatter Pajama Party at the Palisades Center. Children and adults are invited to wear their favorite pajamas, bathrobes, and slippers to the special event. Pre-show activities include surprise gifts for children and adults, lucky seat contests, and Fujifilm Digital Camera door prizes.

Glaze Art Studio, Mommy and Me Potter class, pottery and a storyPottery and Me

Stop by Glaze Art Studio for "Mommy and Me: Pottery and a Story," a new program that invites mommies (or daddies) and their toddlers get creative together. The program features story time and a related piece of pottery to paint. Glaze, which touts itself as Rockland County's only paint-your-own pottery workshop, is owned by sisters and Piermont natives Claudette Scheffold and Kim Scheffold Stiefel. $15. Shakespeare for Kids; Children's Shakespeare Theatre; Twelfth NightShakespeare For Kids

Kids don't have to wait until high school to meet The Bard. The Children's Shakespeare Theatre presents a family-friendly production of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, a mad-cap story in which nothing is as it seems to be. A girl pretends to be a boy, and confusion and mixed-up love result in one of Shakespeare's best-loved comedies. March 5, 6, 12 and 13 at 7pm; March 7 at 2pm. Suggested for children over age 5. Learn about local organizations and businesses that support Rockland County's children and families at Youthfest, at the SUNY Rockland Fieldhouse on March 14. This annual event features entertainment, face-painting, crafts for children, giveaways, and demonstrations. 145 College Road, Suffern. 845-574-4396. www.sunyrockland.edu.

Irish Children's Folk Dancing

48th Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade

This annual event is said to be one of the largest St. Patrick's Day parades in the metropolitan area, second only to New York City. The parade starts at the Pfizer parking lot on Middletown Road, continues on to Central Avenue, and ends at the Pearl River post office on Main Street. Attractions include pipe bands, high school bands, veterans, local schools and churches, as well as all eight of Rockland County's Irish dance schools. March 21 at 1:30pm. All ages. FREE. Pausing at the Crossing by Dorothy Deyrup; Hopper House Art CenterAt the Museums: Gallery Hopping

Bring the family to two exhibits now on display at the Hopper House Art Gallery. Dorothy Deyrup: Retrospective Paintings presents a retrospective of this Social Realist painter who lived from 1908 to 1961. Dramatic Perspective: Dennis Revitzky is a collection of mixed-media prints and paintings created from a unique technique developed by the artist. Both shows run through March 21. Hudson Highlands Nature MuseumNature's Treasures

Stop by the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum's Wildlife Education Center to meet and learn about the "Animal of the Week." Saturday and Sunday, 1 and 2:30pm. Hudson Highlands Nature Museum, Wildlife Education Center, 25 Boulevard, Cornwall.

View 400 years of Hudson River history through the perspective of an iconic river dweller, the Atlantic sturgeon. These amazing fish, which have been around since before the dinosaurs, have witnessed and withstood tremendous changes along the river over the past 400 years. Hudson Highlands Nature Museum's Outdoor Discovery Center, across from 174 Angola Road, Muser Drive, Cornwall.
