Families are invited for a fabulous afternoon of fun featuring an interactive show with the Amazing Grace Circus. Afterward, get in the Hanukkah spirit with "lots of latkes." Reservations are required.

 

Munchkin Monday Hanukkah Event

Rockland Parent
magazine, the Palisades Center, and PJ Library—a program that sends free bedtime books and music with a Jewish theme to children on a subscription basis—team up to host this special Hanukkah event. Toddlers and their parents are invited to celebrate the Festival of Lights with Princess Moxie Rules! Enjoy a fun, light, and engaging puppet show with singing and props.

 

Hanukkah Menorah Lighting

Celebrate the Festival of Lights at this special menorah lighting event hosted by the Chabad Jewish Enrichment Center of Chestnut Ridge. Activities include festive holiday music, a reading of the story of Hanukkah, and treats for children. The event takes place at Nanuet Plaza near Kay Jewelers.

Families are invited to help light the synagogue's Hanukkah menorah. Also enjoy sufganiyot (donuts), holiday songs, pizza bagels, and latkes. Families are encouraged to bring their own chanukiyah and candles.

Holiday Lights

Dec. 6

Nyack Village hosts this special First Friday event with a Christmas twist. Jeffrey Friedberg and the Bossy Frog Band will perform holiday tunes; Dave Blau and friends will present The Night Before Christmas. Also enjoy hot refreshments, a visit from Santa, and the official lighting of the Village tree. Come early for dinner; stay late for shopping.

Stop by the park for this annual event with holiday entertainment and light refreshments. Hear pre-schoolers sing carols and greet Santa himself.

 

Breakfast with Santa

Spend a beautiful winter morning at Bear Mountain enjoying a hot and cold breakfast buffet in the company of the man in the big, red suit. Reservations are required.

Join Lucas Candies in celebrating the holiday season by decorating your own chocolate Christmas tree. Then join Santa as he reads The Magical Tale of Santa Dust by Patricia Cardello.

 

Saint Nicholas Day Celebration

Historical Society of Rockland County, New City
Dec. 7-8

The Historical Society of Rockland County opens the doors to the 1832 Jacob Blauvelt House to welcome children of all ages to celebrate St. Nicholas. Each child will get a special treat in his/her shoe from St. Nicholas and everyone can visit with St. Nicholas and his horse. Families can enjoy refreshments and visit the historical society's current exhibit, “Simple Gifts.” Pre-paid reservations are required.

 

Cookies with Santa

Palisades Center, West Nyack
Dec. 8

Santa will trade in his red hat for a chef's hat at this new holiday event (replacing Breakfast with Santa, the mall’s previous holiday activity). Kids ages 3-9 are invited to decorate their own special Christmas cookie to take home. Reservations are required via the mall’s website.

 

The Elf on the Shelf Story Time

Barnes & Noble at Palisades Center, West Nyack
Dec. 14

Kids are invited to this special holiday story time featuring Elf on the Shelf: A Holiday Tradition. Afterward, enjoy Christmas activities and an Adopt-an-Elf event.

 

Holiday with the Animals

Bergen County Zoological Park, Paramus, NJ
Dec. 15

Kids aren't the only ones getting treats this holiday season. Stop by the zoo for a special Christmas celebration with the animals. From 12-3pm, families can enjoy free train rides and refreshments as well as music provided by local scouts and a wind ensemble. The animals get their holiday gifts at 2pm. Pictures with Santa and other costume characters will be available during this time as well.

 

Berry Merry Holiday Party

Bear Mountain Zoo, Bear Mountain
Dec. 21

Stop by the Zoo's Bear Den to make tasty holiday treats for the black bears. Then, at 11am, watch the bears come out on exhibit and enjoy their special gifts, including giant holiday packages wrapped by keepers.

Sukey Molloy & Friends present this multicultural holiday concert for families and children up to age 7. The show includes lively winter holiday songs from around the globe and is presented by The Nyack Center, Nyack Art Collective First Friday, and PlayMove&Sing Inc.

Special Audience Performance of The Nutcracker

Dec. 7

RYDE gives its annual Special Audience Performance of The Nutcracker for senior citizens and physically and mentally challenged residents of Rockland County on Dec. 7 at 1pm. This special event features a free “Sweets Reception” at intermission, named for the journey Clara takes to the Land of the Sweets in the second act. Tickets for this show are available only through senior citizen centers and organizations with active membership among seniors and the physically and mentally challenged from Rockland.

 

RYDE's Full-Length Nutcracker

SUNY Rockland Community College, Cultural Arts Theatre, Suffern
Dec. 13-15

Finally, RYDE presents its full-length, lushly staged production of The Nutcracker featuring both student and professional dancers. Former New York City Ballet soloist and Broadway veteran Robert Wersinger returns as Drosselmeyer, and Milan Misko performs as the Cavalier in the show’s grand pas de deux.
