Description: Drawn exclusively from the Museum?s Permanent Collection, this exhibition presents an overview of color theory and its manifestations in various art movements of the 20th century, including Pointillism, Fauvism, Synchromism, Neoplasticism, Abstract Expressionism, Minimalism, and Op art. Through December 2, 2012.

Venue Description: Established in 1920, the Heckscher Museum of Art houses more than 2,100 pieces spanning 500 years of art, with an emphasis on the 19th and 20th centuries. With collections ranging from American and European modernism to contemporary photography, the museum has something for all aesthetic tastes. One of its oldest works is Lucas Cranach's "Virgin, Child, St. John the Baptist and Angels," dating from 1534. Across Time and Place: Treasures from a Permanent Collection rotates highlighted pieces from the permanent collection. Through the museum's popular exhibition, Long Island's Best: Young Artists at the Heckscher, high school visual art students can compete each spring to have their work publicly displayed. It is the only juried exhibition in Long Island that allows students to show their work in a museum. Family-friendly public programs at the museum include concerts, lectures, puppet shows, book groups, and hands-on activities. School discovery programs are grade-appropriate and designed to enrich a school's curriculum by exploring art and creativity.

The Heckscher Museum of Art is located at 2 Prime Ave. in Huntington. Open Wednesday-Friday 10am-4pm, first Friday of each month until 8:30pm; Saturday-Sunday 11am-5pm. Closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day. Admission: $8; $6 seniors; $5 students ages 10 and older; free children younger than 10. Huntington residents: $6; $4 seniors and students ages 10 and older; free for children younger than 10.
