Meet the underwater animals making their debut at the Atlantis Marine World Aquarium in Riverhead, NY, this summer, including alligators, penguins, and sea lions.

Ever wonder what it would be like to get up close to animals like alligators, penguins, and sea lions? Atlantis Marine World Aquarium is debuting some new exhibits and shows this summer that will allow families to do just that.

Back by popular demand, the 900-square foot Gator Invasion exhibit is on display through September 5. Families can learn fun facts about five six-foot-long alligators from southeastern Florida, several two-foot-long alligators, and a crocodile from the Gatorama farm in Palmdale, Florida. They'll also enjoy a series of interactive shows and discussions, and even get the opportunity to hold one of the creatures.

An interactive Penguin Encounter with one of three African penguin chicks is also available. Enter Penguin Preschool and see how penguins swim, waddle, and shake their feathers as they walk about the group. Animal experts will talk about how penguins live and how they are cared for, and families might have the chance to reach out and feel their feathers.

The aquarium, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, is also offering a new daily sea lion show called Aquarium Idol, where the animals perform some tricks. And kids can sign up for a "Sea Lion Kiss" and then receive a keepsake photo to commemorate the occasion.
If your kids are into more active pursuits, consider a Pirate Snorkel Adventure, where they can search the lagoon and help Captain Poseidon locate missing treasure, all while encountering fish from around the world.
