Harbor's Summer Camp and Workshops represent a unique blend of summer fun and educational opportunities. They are an extension of Harbor Country Day School's distinguished educational experience and are open to all.

Harbor Country Day School's Summer Camp and Workshops include Day Camp, Workshops, Sports, Swimming, Early Morning Program, After Camp Program, and a Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Program. Harbor has succeeded in providing a quality summer experience for over 500 boys and girls of preschool age through 8th grade each summer for over twelve years.

The goal of Harbor's Summer Programs is to create an atmosphere in which children feel confident and excited to develop their current interests and to explore new ones. Believing that children are always ready to learn as they play, the Summer Programs offer a unique blend of summer fun, educational opportunities, and sports.

Building a Community
Weekly Group Activities, Contests and Challenges

During the summer, our camp staff provides a caring, supportive environment to our campers and an eagerness to offer them new experiences. Through weekly contests and challenges, a sense of community develops, and as a result each camper becomes part of a very special team. Friendships are discovered and strengthened and leaders are born. Whether it’s being a team captain, leading the daily pledge, participating in the drama production or talent show or leading the groups’ camp song, all campers have opportunities to discover themselves, increase their self-confidence and embrace new challenges.

Contests and challenges are held each week, on a Thursday or Friday afternoon in the gymnasium. All camp groups, from preschool to grade 8, come together to present to the whole camp community what they have been working on all week. Winners are chosen from a panel of judges (pool staff) and treated to an ice cream party. Friendly competition, teamwork and, above all, sportsmanship are encouraged. Each week brings a new contest or challenge and new winners.

Camp Programs

The Day Camp is designed on a small scale and offers a diversified program that will engage your children in a safe environment. All campers are grouped according to the grade they will be entering the following September. Camp groups are co-educational until second grade. Each group has a home base which serves as a gathering place to begin and end the day.

Each camp week has a unique theme. Camp activities vary from year to year, and may include instructional swim, soccer, arts & crafts, baseball clinics, recreational swim, basketball, group challenges & contests, archery, nature, flag football, juggling, and much more. Manners, good sportsmanship, common courtesies, and fun are emphasized by the staff who lead each camp group.

The Day Camp consists of a Junior Division, for campers in Preschool, Kindergarten, and 1st grade, an Intermediate Division, for campers in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grades, and a Senior Division, for campers in 6th, 7th, and 8th Grades. Camp weeks of 2, 3, 4 or 5 full or mini days are available for all divisions

Workshops

Harbor's workshop program can be a supplement to day camp or can be a program on its own. The workshop is an exciting option for students interested in fine-tuning a particular skill or experimenting with a new one.

The Workshop Program consists of a variety of academic, specialty, and studio art workshops. The core of the program was designed to keep the students' academic momentum going all summer long. The emphasis is always on making the learning experience enjoyable and exciting for students.

Class size for all workshops is small and limited according to the nature of the subject matter. In workshops students learn, discover, and create just for the fun of it! A highly qualified staff of dedicated teachers is assembled to challenge and meet the needs of each student.

Workshops vary from year to year, and may include such courses as cartooning, painting, pottery, digital photography, website design, ninjutsu, chess, drama, fun in the kitchen, language arts, math, card sharks, CPR, and Survivor, to name just a few.

Day campers who are also enrolled in the workshop program will be taken to their workshops at the appropriate time and will return to their camp group at the conclusion of the session.

Workshops, in combination with the day camp program, are optional and are available at an additional charge. All workshops meet daily, Monday through Friday, for one hour. Some workshops require a two week commitment. Students may enroll in up to three workshops per week.
