Description: Dr. Anne Sarah Rubin addresses the intriguing question of what George Washington has to do with the American Civil War, exploring the ways that both the Union and Confederacy drew on the mythology and iconography of the Revolutionary war. An Associate Professor of History at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, Dr. Rubin is President of the Society of Civil War Historians, and has written numerous works on the great national conflict, including the award winning, "A Shattered Nation: The Rise and Fall of the Confederacy, 1861-1868." Her address marks the 9th annual Aronson Memorial Lecture, named for a devoted volunteer in the 1980s and 90s. The site is open from 12-4pm.
