Stuffscapes - Pelham Art Center
Add to Calendar 27-09-2014 20-12-2014 15 Stuffscapes Stuffscapes, a six-person outdoor exhibition with sculptures made from diverse materials such as cast metal, repurposed wood, and found objects, demonstrates commitment to material engagement while exploring a dialog of personal and cultural significance of the sculptural object. Stuffscapes is a six-person outdoor sculpture exhibition in the courtyard. The six sculptors, David Alban, Margaret Coleman, Stephen Eakin, Liz Ensz, Coral Lambert, and James Lentz each present a new sculpture that explores the significance of an object in relationship to permanence and temporality, our cultural perspective on the environment, and the materials we use. From cast metal to repurposed wood and found objects, the show reflects a broad span of materials exploring the continuum from which all manmade materials are ultimately derived from an organic natural resource. It further explores the relationship between the natural process of geological evolution that creates our natural materials and the artists' interventions that mold and shape them for cultural purposes. With each sculpture, the show strives to present an object of cultural significance that considers the resources we have, and uses them in new and exciting ways. On view through Dec. 20. The opening reception will be part of ArtsFest on Sept. 27, and will include a community aluminum pour organized by the Stuffscapes artists. See the sculptures, meet the artists, carve your own wall tile, and watch it be poured in aluminum. (Cost is $20 to make a tile). Curated by ArtShape Mammoth.
