Venue Description: The Paramount Center for the Arts is one of Westchester County's leading entertainment venues. Its mission is to bring cultural and educational programming to the area at affordable prices. For decades, the center has hosted scores of live performances, ranging from dance, to comedy, to music. This historic stage has presented the likes of Bernadette Peters, the Temptations, Eddie Money, George Carlin, Louis Black, B.B. King, Patti Labelle, Last Comic Standing, and Los Lonely Boys.
The center also shows films and hosts arts-in-education programs and visual art exhibitions. The building--a registered National Historic landmark--opened in 1930 as a 1,500-seat movie theatre called Peekskill Paramount Theatre. The cinema prospered for more than 40 years before it closed in 1973. Then in 1979, the City of Peekskill opened the building as a performing arts theater under the auspices of local community arts groups. Shortly thereafter, the City of Peekskill established a private nonprofit organization that would independently operate and rent out the center. Following an overhaul and improvements to the building, the Peekskill Paramount Center for the Performing Arts presented its first series of performances in 1982, and has been hosting highly sought-after performers ever since.
Through their Arts in Education programs, schools can bring their students to the Paramount Center for special performances. All performances have a curriculum connection with a discounted group price.
