14th Street Y Offers Fitness Classes for Kids with Special Needs

The 14th Street Y in NYC’s East Village offers the KOL Program, which includes sports, fitness, movement, and music classes for kids with autism and communication disorders or language delays.

fitness class for kids with special needs

The 14th Street Y‘s KOL Program offers weekend programming including sports, swim, Capoeira, music, movement, and art for children with special needs and their families. This program is geared for children on the high-functioning end of the autism spectrum and children with communication and language delays.

“Kol” is a Hebrew word that means “voice,” says Amanda Kayam, special needs coordinator for the 14th Street Y. “We believe that every child in the program has a ‘voice’ and [the right] toward a promising future.” KOL is also an acronym for kindness, openness, and love, Kayam adds.
