75 New York Museums Will Offer Free Admission on Smithsonian’s Museum Day

Smithsonian Institutions in Washington, D.C. offer guests free admission year-round, and the Smithsonian invites other museums, zoos and cultural centers around the country to embody that same spirit every year on Museum Day. This year, Museum Day will celebrate the Smithsonian Year of Music, an institution-wide initiative celebrating the Smithsonian’s vast musical collections and resources through 365 days of music-related programming. Download a branded ticket on August 15 to take part in Museum Day–with a guest, if you want!–at museums around the New York metro area on September 21.

The Smithsonian believes in music as a method of communication, cross-cultural exchange, and understanding, and thus the initiative celebrates not just music itself but also related resources in art, history, culture, science, and education. Participating Museum Day organizations are invited to create programming to support the initiative and highlight musical heritages from around the world.

“Music is a natural fit for Museum Day as this is Smithsonian’s Year of Music,” says Amy Wilkins, Chief Revenue Officer at Smithsonian Media. “It’s the perfect theme that unites us all.”
