Learning by Doing at Brainy Academy

Brainy Academy opened on March 1. The Academy offers Brainy Montessori, Brainy Builders, and Brainy Tutoring, as well as a birthday party program called Awesome Birthdays.

Brainy Academy opens on March 1, in an effort to give parents in South Brooklyn more options when it comes to enrichment education for their children, says owner Viktoria Altman. The Academy offers Brainy Montessori, Brainy Builders, and Brainy Tutoring, as well as a birthday party program called Awesome Birthdays.

Altman is aiming to make the classes offered at Brainy Academy accessible to as many families as possible, she says. “We only require a few hours a week, and we only charge a few hundred dollars,” she says. “We want to be convenient for working parents.”

Brainy Montessori focuses on reading and mathematical skills and is appropriate for children ages 3-6. Brainy Builders incorporates Lego Education toys and facilitates learning about math, physics, pattern recognition, engineering, and construction. Brainy Builders is appropriate for “kids age 4 all the way to adults,” Altman says. “We encourage learning by doing…the kids put together the Lego Education machines themselves, and then use the machines to learn different concepts.”

Brainy Tutoring offers a small group setting with a three to one student-teacher ratio. The tutors are certified educators and assistance is available for all subjects.

Birthday party themes include Lego Star Wars, Lego Harry Potter, and other Lego-based options. Adults can enjoy the outdoor 1,000-square-foot terrace while children put together Legos and engage in educational, competitive games.

Brainy Academy is on the fourth floor at 1733 Sheepshead Bay Road. For more information visit brainyacademyny.com. And for our special VIP offer—save half off your first month!—go to nymetroparents.com/brainysaving before April 1.
