WHAT: Kids can make this year’s trick-or-treating truly unique with a costume they make themselves, using an array of tools and fun materials to create the costume of their dreams or nightmares.

Great Jack-o’-Lantern Spectacular Sail  
WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 24, 4-6:30pm
WHERE: Belmont Lake State Park, Southern State Parkway Exit 38, North Babylon
WHAT: The first 50 carved pumpkins received are placed on flotation devices with candles inserted and sailed around the lake behind kayaks. Children can make scary crafts, play games, visit the “Spooky Den” and various trick-or-treat stations.
WHY WE LOVE IT: There’s something hauntingly beautiful about pumpkins glowing over the water. Gets us in that Halloween mood every time.

Ghostly Gala 2015

WHERE: Long Island Children’s Museum, 11 Davis Ave., Garden City
WHAT: Join in for a special night at the museum and welcome action heroes, ballerinas, clowns, soldiers, and other costume-clad visitors to celebrate Halloween in a fun, safe, and spooky way! Special guests from the Organization for Bat Conservation are swooping in to dispel the myths surrounding bats. Showtimes are 6:15pm, 7pm, 7:45pm, and 8:30pm.
