Family Outing: A Kid-Friendly Car Show in Smithtown

Last year, the buzz among the over 1,000 people who turned out for the St. Patrick School Spring Car Show fundraiser was that the show keeps getting bigger and better. Well, this is its sixth year, and you can bring your family to see an array of 400 cars, from movie cars and muscle cars to race cars, monster trucks, classic antiques – whatever you can imagine, you’re likely to see it here. It’s a non-judged car show, and all years, makes, and models are welcome.

But it’s not just about the cars. There’s a wide assortment of entertainment on hand, too. DJ Night Train will be spinning oldies and Elvis impersonator Stingray will perform, while children’s band Rock Underground will provide special entertainment for kids. There will also be bouncers and a slide for little ones from Jellybean Entertainment, and an appearance by the Long Island Ghostbusters (yes, in costume, and with a car just like the one in the movie). Plus, you’ll get a chance to meet Don Pedro-Colley, the actor who played Sheriff Little on Dukes of Hazzard, and Tom Sarmento, lead mechanic from that show.

If you’ve been wanting to introduce your kids to the music and cars of the ’50s and ’60s, this is a fun way to do it. About 200 kids attended last year’s event, when vendor booths included activities such as spin art and sand art. There will be food cooked on the premises (of the hamburger-and-hotdog variety).

The event takes place on a very large property with plenty of parking. All proceeds go directly to St. Patrick School, a Catholic school for kids in first through eighth grade.
