This month, take the kids outside to explore tons of outdoor activities on Long Island, in both Nassau County and Suffolk County.

First Day Hikes FREE

WHERE: Bethpage State Park, 99 Quaker Meetinghouse Road, Farmingdale, NY
AGES: 5 and older
WHAT: Bethpage State Park will be having a 5-mile hike which will start at the playground in the picnic area.

Seal Walks
WHEN: Jan. 1 - Mar. 18, Saturday-Sunday, see website for times
WHERE: Jones Beach State Park, Field 10, 1 Ocean Parkway, Wantagh, NY
AGES: 5 and older
WHAT: A State Park naturalist will lead visitors on an hour and a half leisurely beach walk to an area where up to four species of seals can be observed. Along the way, there will be opportunities to see many winter birds and to explore marine geology.

WHAT: A State Park naturalist will lead visitors on a leisurely 3-mile beach walk to an area where up to four species of seals can be observed. Reservations required.

WHAT: Hike with a park guide to explore the changes in the forest during the winter and search for signs of wildlife. Binoculars recommended, registration required.

New Year's Day Hike

WHAT: Learn about Long Island's winter habitats on this family-friendly walk. Registration required.

Winter Hike! (Family Event)

WHERE: Center for Science Teaching & Learning, 1450 Tanglewood Road, Rockville Centre, NY

WHAT: Take a walk through our trails to learn about what wild animals are up to in the cold winter.  Afterwards, visit our exhibit to see how our own animals cope with the cold.
