UPDATED June 2019: Families with children who have special needs and learning differences can find a variety of resources for classroom learning and after-school programming from preschool through 12th grade right here in Westchester County. Find schools and after-school programs that provide individual and group therapies with highly structured and supportive programming to help children achieve emotional and academic success. Programs for children with a broad range of special needs are listed here, including classes for children with autism, Down syndrome, PTSD, ADD or ADHD, anxiety, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, and developmental delays. Families can choose from a range of activities for their children with special needs, including therapeutic riding, dance, and practical life skills classes such as cooking, woodworking, painting, and arts and crafts. In addition, many of these locations offer summer camps and vacation programs. Programming can be found throughout Westchester County in Armonk, Brewster, Carmel, Chappaqua, Scarsdale, Yorktown, Valhalla and White Plains.

In addition to our full-time programs serving students in kindergarten-12th and post-secondary students, we offer part-time Practical Arts (grades 9th-12th), summer, and after-school programming. Our part-time program is for students receiving their academic programming from another school or at home who would benefit from hands-on, practical life skills such as farming and cooking, movement, and fine arts such as woodwork, painting, and fiber crafts. Summer programming includes farming, culinary skills, arts and crafts for kindergarten-12th and post-secondary students. Pegasus Therapeutic Riding provides equine-assisted activities for people with special needs, veterans, and individuals at risk. We offer therapeutic horseback riding and unmounted programs to participants ages 4 and older. Diagnoses include but are not limited to: autism, Down syndrome, PTSD, developmental delays, multiple sclerosis, ADD/ADHD, visual impairment, anxiety disorder, cerebral palsy, and traumatic brain injury. You can play an important role in research by participating in our study to learn about brain development. The McPartland Lab at the Yale School of Medicine is seeking individuals age 6-40 with autism spectrum disorder, schizophrenia, or typically developing children and adults. Participants will receive a clinical evaluation and compensation.
