Children's language skills develop rapidly, absorbing everything they hear. Why not introduce another language to your child while they are young and receptive to new things? Explore basic themes in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Workshops are drop in and do not require advance sign up. The series will explore a different theme each week (numbers, fruits, animals, etc). A class project and song will be used each week to reinforce learning.

Children can select a book to read aloud to Jami the therapy dog, a certified therapy pet partner. Reading aloud improves literacy skills, and animals are ideal reading companions because they create a relaxed, comfortable and safe environment. Children and teens ages 11-14, can try their hand at acting, and perform in a live show especially for kids. Budding actors, musicians, scenery artists, sound effects techs, and stagehands are needed. Weekly meetings and rehearsals are required for all actors and actresses.

Sunset and the Pink Moon - Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge

Take a sunset stroll along the West Pond Trail and through the woodlands with a ranger. Enjoy watching the sun set over Jamaica Bay and the rise of the full moon, called the Pink Moon in folklore. Paarticipants are encouraged to bring a flashlight and a camera. This 2.2 mile walk is a great heart-healthy program. Rain date: Sunday, April 28

Run for the Wild 5K & Family Fun Run/Walk - Bronx Zoo
April 27, 2013 - Bronx

This year's 5K run/walk is dedicated to saving some of the biggest of the big animals: elephants. There will be two start times: one for runners at 8am, and a second for the Family Fun Run/Walk at 8:45am. All adults and senior registrants must also raise at least $30 before the run in order to participate on April 27. The minimum fundraising requirement is waived for children. Included: complimentary Bronx Zoo admission for the entire day, and a commemorative WCS Run for the Wild T-shirt. Last year's run sold out early; register ASAP.

Carnival! Dinner & Dance Fundraiser to benefit Jamaica Drum Jam - St. Patrick Church (Basement)

Help the community while enjoying live music, dance performances and a mini-carnival at this fundraiser. The ticket donation will benefit Jamaica Drum Jam, a non-profit program which provides music education and musical performances to low and moderate income individuals in New York City, and will be used to pay for our new instruments, instrument repairs, printing, postage, facilitator and performer fees, non-musical workshops supplies, storage, engraving and hand trucks to transport instruments. McCarter Theatre Center presents 'Sunjata Kamalenya' - Long Island Children's Museum

One of the greatest legends of West African Mand? tradition is brought to life in a completely interactive experiential theater production. The tale of Sunjata is the saga of a boy who is prophesied to be the greatest king of his people, and his loving mother, who must help him to overcome the adversity of a very dangerous world of sorcery and hostility. Traditional music, costumes, and scenery set the stage for an unforgettable experience as students realize that they are not there merely to watch the production, but are being immersed and involved in helping to create the magical world of 12th century Mali.

'Pirate Pete's Parrot' - The Secret Theatre

Family Art Project: Fly Me to the Dove Tree - Wave Hill

Visit Wave Hill's dove tree and observe the flower-like bracts that give it its name. Then, using natural materials and paper, make a dove tree sculpture, or use plaster of Paris to create a flock of doves. Free, and admission to the grounds is free until 12pm.

Arbor Day Celebration - Alley Pond Environmental Center

Come celebrate the Earth through action on Arbor Day. Give something back to the planet. With each tree planted participants will help improve the air quality, provide homes and shelter for wildlife, conserve topsoil and help keep the atmosphere in balance. Each participant is asked to bring a native shrub (that will provide food and ground cover for some of the native animals), work gloves, sturdy shoes and clothing that is weather appropriate. Tree planting will take place rain or shine, pre-registration required.

Spectacle: The Music Video - Museum of the Moving Image

This groundbreaking exhibition explores music video as an important and influential art form in contemporary culture and is the most comprehensive museum exhibition on music videos presented to date. Spectacle highlights the form's place at the forefront of creative technology, its role in pushing the boundaries of innovative production, its important role as an experimental sandbox for filmmakers, and its lasting effects on popular culture globally. The exhibition features more than 300 videos, presented alongside artifacts and interactive experiences, and will be installed in the Museum's 4,000 sq.-ft. changing exhibitions gallery, amphitheater gallery, and other spaces.
