This is How NY Metro Area Businesses Are Keeping You Safe

Here are the safety precautions businesses in the New York metro area are taking to keep you and your family safe when you visit them.

As New York continues to reopen, families are eager to re-enter the world and revisit the many businesses that make them love the area they live in so much. Luckily, so many of these small businesses are working tirelessly to make sure they are able to offer you a comfortable and enjoyable experience in the safest way possible without compromising their services. Here's what the businesses in the New York metro area are doing to keep you and your family safe upon visiting.

Safety Protocols at Manhattan Businesses

The Ballet Club

Masks required, strict social distancing observed, strict time table observed, hand sanitizer available, increased disinfecting, limited class size and people allowed in the studio. Watch The Ballet Club's safety protocols video for more information.

The IDEAL School of Manhattan

Masks required. Daily symptom checklists completed before entering school. Temperature checks for all individuals entering school buildings Increased disinfecting hand washing stations and hand sanitizer in each classroom. Communication and contact tracing protocols.

Iken Science Academy/Preschool 2, 3, & 4's

We have done the COVID cleaning and DOH/CDC requirements in order to be open for children. We have disposable masks, decals for social distancing, and plenty of sanitizer throughout the space. We will take the temperatures of all those who enter. We have our Safety Plan on hand for parents to review according to DOH/CDC guidelines. Our space is new construction.

Kids Dance Revolution

For the safety of our families and communities we have changed our format to Virtual Kiddie Discos. We are now offering three rooms of fun, fun, and more FUN! Each experience offers The Happy Feet Suite designed for dancing with music provided by our incredible DJs, The You Did It Zone for themed arts and crafts creation with at home items, and the Hangout Lounge, where classic performances will be scheduled. 

Let's Dress Up

We have many new protocols in place. We are using CDC recommended products to clean high touch surfaces. We have social distance markers (they are fairies of course) and are operating at a reduced capacity. We have a questionnaire and/or temperature screening upon arrival. We also have a UV light to be run in between sessions. We can also make any additional adjustments for parents and are offering private play sessions as well. We are so excited to welcome people back in safely!


We are offering microschooling, limited to 5 children per cohort. Within each cohort, children and staff will be wearing masks or face coverings, and everyone will be temperature checked, daily. We will also practice social distancing within the classroom, and build in more regular hand washing routines.

Tiger Strong NYC

Taking temperatures prior to entering the store. Anyone with a temperature (students and staff) above 100 degrees will not be permitted in. We ask that you check your child’s temperature prior to leaving your household. Blood oxygen will also be taken prior to entering. A level of 92 and above is required.  Shoes must be removed upon entering. – Hand washing will be mandatory for students and staff upon entry and at regular intervals. We will provide masks for students and staff that don’t bring them. Social distancing will be enforced . We will also l cap class size to six attendees or less. All equipment and contact surfaces be sanitized between uses. Adults who wish to observe will be requested to do so from the outside.

Super Soccer Stars

Distanced, zonal play. Small groups with limited class size. Hand sanitizing stations. Enhanced equipment cleaning before and after use. Temperature checks upon arrival for all players. Coaches will wear a face mask and/or face shield at all times, reinforce prevention methods throughout class, and complete daily health screenings.

Snapology of Manhattan & LIC

Staggered drop-off and pick-up. Smaller classes. Contactless check-in and masks required. Students will have individual materials. Frequent hand washing and strict sanitation. Staff policy and procedure agreement specific to COVID-19 guidelines.

Pustblume International Preschool

We do not share a facility and have two locked points of entry, putting us in control of who can enter the building and when and allowing us to mandate social distancing at drop off and pick up. All adults and children older than five are required to wear masks, cleaning protocols have been increased, sanitation stations are present throughout the school, and hygiene activities are increased for the children throughout the day. Our spacious light-filled classrooms have windows that allow for fresh air and ventilation and provide space for natural distancing. We are keeping enrollment low in order to go beyond the guidelines set forth by the authorities.

Safety Protocols at Brooklyn Businesses

Court 16

As Court 16 has reopened, we’ve implemented new safety standards so you can enjoy the game we love while having peace of mind. For summer 2020, we are currently offering private and semi-private lessons exclusively to minimize the number of athletes on the court and requiring that only coaches handle tennis balls to promote social distancing. For fall programs, we have added group classes with a maximum of four players per court. This includes an opportunity for families in pod groups to exclusively play together. For your safety, lessons must be booked by appointment only, meaning you must schedule your lesson in advance. 

Dedimus Potestatem

Required social distancing, masks required for all classes, Sanitization station in all in-person classes, virtual classes offered to all school partners and private students, materials sanitized and packaged, small class size (no more than eight students per class).

Max Adventures

Guests must follow all posted instructions and wear a face covering at all times while visiting Max Adventures. All high-touch areas are covered with self-cleaning surface nanotechnology.

Reminders for all to wash hands frequently placed throughout the facility. Additional hand sanitizer stations have been added. Fresh outdoor air circulating through our fresh air intake air system. Installed new MERV 13 air filters. Use of temperature checks for all guests and employees. Zelle payments are now available. Additional PPE has been added to the first aid kit to deal with any COVID related illnesses. Social Distancing reminders and markers placed on the floor throughout the facility. Capacity limits that facilitate social distancing. Enhanced cleaning and sanitizing protocols. Fogging and disinfecting all areas between each party. 

Mount Sinai Doctors-Brooklyn Heights

The office has established a safe environment by implementing a range of rigorous protocols, including continually disinfecting all areas and frequently touched surfaces; requiring all patients and staff to wear face coverings; following social distancing; screening all patients for COVID-19 symptoms upon arrival; regularly testing staff for COVID-19; implementing strict isolation practices to separate COVID-19 patients from others.


Safety Protocols at Queens Businesses

Court 16

The Dance Project

We are taking all necessary steps to make sure students are extra safe while here: implementing health guidelines (distancing, Clorox wipes, hand sanitizers, masks, taking temperatures), as well as ultra-violet wands used to disinfect surfaces in between classes; limiting class size and staggering classes so there are fewer students in the reception areas & dressing rooms. We will be offering both in person classes and virtual options.

Achieve Martial Arts

Masks required at all times. Social Distancing more than six feet apart. Disinfecting between classes. Hand sanitizing stations. Air purifiers. No contact during class. Enter and exit one at a time.

A Child’s Dream

Curbside pick up. Social distancing. Masked teachers. Extra cleaning. Consistent hand washing. Making sure all are healthy.

Artistree Performing Arts

MERV-13 Hepa filters are being installed and will be replaced monthly. Only students will be allowed in the studio. Lobby and studios will have additional hand sanitizing stations. Hallways and stairways will have directional markings. Posters will be displayed to remind patrons of safety protocols. Studio floors will be clearly marked with taped markers to ensure social distancing. Administrative staff will be disinfecting highly touched surfaces. Teachers will be disinfecting stereos and microphones between each class. All students will be required to wear a mask that covers both the nose and mouth during classes. Students will receive a contact-free temperature check and hand sanitizer. Class schedules are staggered and students will be admitted into the building one at a time. Should the studio be required to shut down, we will do our best to move all remaining rehearsals and performances outdoors. We will also use Zoom when outdoor areas are not available.

Bach to Roch Mamaroneck

Temperature checks before entering the building. Hand Sanitizer for use in every room and common area. Lessons will be drop off only. No one will be permitted to wait in our common areas before or after their scheduled lesson time. Only lesson rooms with a minimum space of 6 feet for every instructor and student will be used. Social distancing rules strictly enforced. Staggering lessons 30 minutes apart to ensure each room can be cleaned and disinfected prior to each lesson. Face masks are mandatory. 

The Cliffs Climbing and Fitness

Masks required. Social distancing. Increased disinfecting. Hand sanitizing stations. Temperature checks. Contact tracing. Time logs. Modified capacity.

Curtain Call

If you feel sick, have been exposed to someone who feels sick, or have traveled to any states experiencing high infection rates, stay home. Temperature screenings will take place for everyone entering our buildings. Staff, students, and guardians must wear a mask while inside and wait outside until five minutes before class.  Parents may drop off students at the front door of the theatre buildings but will not be permitted inside any of the buildings or classrooms or to wait inside the lobbies or any of the theatre buildings. Students will be escorted from the lobby to our classroom spaces at drop-off and back from their classroom for dismissal. If there is an emergency that prevents you from reaching the theatre on time for dismissal, please contact our Education Director directly at or 203-329-8207. Classes will have access to the outdoor stage on the property during daylight hours, weather permitting. Classes are fifteen minutes apart to avoid any overlap between student arrivals and dismissals. Class sizes will be limited to eight students. Hand sanitizing at the entrance area, social distancing squares, acting and dance students six feet apart vocal students fifteen feet apart. All students should bring their own water bottles to class and no snacks allowed. Dance students are asked to arrive dressed and ready for class. Classroom spaces, restrooms, and common areas will be sanitized regularly. 

From Farm to Table

Masks required. Social distancing. Increased disinfecting. Hand sanitizer offered. Gloves must be worn when handling produce.

ISG Gymnastics

Smaller class sizes, kids distanced minimum of 6 feet, and after-school classes are spread out to allow for no crowd entering and exiting. Sunday classes added, school day classes added for those who are home schooling or distance learning which are limited to one group at a time, and "pod" classes available. Facility is fully disinfected between each class with a fogger machine. Staff required to wear masks, hand sanitizer available, temperature checks for all who enter, and much more!

Groove Family Music

Groove Family Music puts your health and safety first. To that end we ask all participants to fill out a comprehensive wellness pledge prior to each class. All social distancing restrictions are strictly enforced for inside and outside classes. This includes mask wearing by everyone ages 2 and older, six feet distance between families, BYO musical instruments, limited capacity, and plenty of hand sanitizer available. All of our classes will be held outside until the weather no longer permits. When we move indoors, Groove's six-foot front doors will remain open (and screened) to allow for maximum airflow into the studio. Our HVAC system is equipped with HEPA filters. All surfaces are thoroughly disinfected between classes. Teachers are trained in safety and sanitation protocols. 

GymCats Gymnastics

Small class sizes, low occupancy, 6 feet distancing markers at every event and throughout the gym. Class times are spread out to allow for a minimum of people entering and exiting at one time. School day times added for those who are homeschooling or distance learning. Many private instruction options available, Ex. pod, one on one, etc.. Facility is fully disinfected between each class. Staff required to wear masks, hand sanitizing before and during class for students and staff, temperature checks for all who enter, and much more!

Logrea Dance Academy

Students should be dropped off no sooner than 5 minutes before class. One-way studio traffic. Temperature checks will be done before entering building. There will be no dressing rooms. Please come completely dressed for class with a small tote to hold street shoes. Classes will be live streamed. In-studio parent observation is discontinued. Students must be picked up at time class is scheduled to end. There will be no waiting in lobby permitted. Exit door will be supervised during pick-up. All studios will have reduced capacity to meet official regulations. HEPA filters are installed in all studios. Hand sanitation stations in lobby and all studios. All faculty and students must wear standard masks while on premises (no valve masks or face shields). Studio floors will be marked for proper distancing during center work. Students will be placed at appropriate distances at the ballet barre . There will be a 15 minute break between all classes for sanitation.

The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk

Admission is by advance online purchase for specific timed entry only, to allow for social distancing through reduced capacity. Everyone older than 2 must wear a mask. Physical distancing encouraged by having everyone flow through the galleries in one direction. Increased cleaning of common areas. While all animal exhibits are open (including the Shark & Ray Touch Pool and jellyfish touch tank), the IMAX Theater and several interactive digital displays are closed for now.

Music Conservatory of Westchester

Masks are required for in-person lessons; piano keys are disinfected before and after in-person lessons; low building density; social distancing; increased disinfecting around building; regular building sanitization schedules; hand sanitizer available; and the HVAC system and filters are being updated. Online music lessons continue. 

NUR Space

While most offerings for parents and families remain online at this time, we are open for appointments and our wellness practitioners are here for you. We require masks, add buffer time between clients, and clean regularly and between each client. We also have a beautiful outdoor space for small group gatherings.

One River School of Art + Design

Maximum eight students per studio. We significantly reduced capacity by 50 percent in each studio to allow for maximum safety and still provide a high quality experience. Studios have been arranged to ensure that students and staff are positioned no less than six feet apart at all times. We have installed rigorous standards to sanitize and disinfect throughout the day, while requiring students and staff to vigorously wash hands constantly. Students and staff are required to wear masks at all times when attending One River School. This is an essential safety feature that is required for all.

The Play Group Theatre

Prior to arrival, parents must screen their children and complete a screening form. If your child has any symptoms or known exposure to COVID-19, they can attend class via Zoom. If a student, family member, or staff tests positive or has known exposure to COVID-19, they must wait at least 14 days or until a negative result to return to in-person classes. Traffic flows in one way, marked by directional markings and distancing signs throughout the building. Parents must wait outside during pick-up/ drop-off. All students and staff will wear masks while in the building and PGT will provide masks for students and staff. Hand sanitizer will be available upon entering the building and students are required to wash/sanitize when they arrive and throughout class. A staff member will be in attendance to ensure that social distancing is observed. The building will be cleaned and disinfected in between each class. Students are asked to keep their personal belongings with them.

Pop in! Play Space & Cafe

Face coverings required for entry. Hand sanitizer stations throughout the play space. 90-minute blocks of play time with 30-minute intervals for cleaning. Loose toys will be rotated out after each block for washing and sanitizing. Capacity limited to 8 children maximum with one adult per family (1,500 square feet of open play space). Larger surfaces are cleaned with a fogger machine acquired from Korea. Doors opened for enhanced air circulation. We purchased a medical grade HEPA filter air purifier for commercial space which will arrive no later than Sept. 4. Anti-bacterial soaps in bathrooms.


REACH Prep is following state and federal guidelines. Students must wear masks to attend classes, maintain a six foot distance, and have individual plastic barriers at their work stations. Additionally, class sizes are a maximum of 10. Staff cleans and disinfects regularly.

Rye Arts Center

All students and staff must wear a mask at all times. Class capacity is 50 percent, so that students and staff can maintain a safe distance. Upon entry, everyone will have their temperature taken by an automatic touch-less kiosk. All will be required to answer a brief questionnaire regarding their current health status. Students will be required to bring their own supplies to class. All supplies provided by the RAC will be sanitized daily. Custodial services will be increased to clean and sanitize the building with an emphasis on sanitizing all touch points. Plexiglass dividers are being installed in classrooms, music studios and offices. Hand sanitizer is available throughout the building. HEPA air filtration is installed throughout the building.


Frequent cleaning of high touch surfaces throughout the day. All staff wear masks and are temperature checked. Hand sanitizer available Children ages 2 and older are required to wear masks except during physical activity with social distancing. Swim staff wear shields. Child care precautions: Children will remain in the same group with the same staff for the duration of their time in child care. Frequent hand washing and cleaning of high touch surfaces throughout the day. All staff and children must wear masks Temperature checks of staff and children before they enter the building as well as lunch time for full day children. Each participant will have an individual bag of supplies to reduce the amount of supplies shared. During pick up and drop off, parents and guardians must stay in their car. Staff will ask the guardian/parent screening questions and will take the child's temperature.

Sheldrake Environmental Center

Sheldrake Environmental Center is offering small-group and customized programs for families while adhering to safe practices for social distancing. Our nature programs are conducted entirely outdoors. Group size is limited, and masks must be worn by all participants, including our naturalists. Families could request a one-time, private experience or a recurring program; these could be held on Sheldrake's 60 acres or in a backyard. Virtual programs are also offered for STEM education and Scout badge quests. All ages, preschool through adult.

Starlight Starbright Music

This fall, all classes—Music Together, Canta y Baila, ukulele—are on Zoom, from our living rooms to yours. Can't get much safer than that!

Studio B Dance Center

Studio B Dance Center is pleased to announce that they will be holding in-person classes for their 25th Anniversary Season. Studio B is a licensed and certified Safer Studio from the More Than Just Great Dancing Network of Affiliated Studios. Teachers and students will be required to wear masks and hand sanitizing stations will be located at all entry and exit points, as well as in each classroom. All classrooms have social dis-dance markings and grids on the floor for social dis-dancing. They are limiting the number of students in each class. Studio B is also offering private, semi-private, and create your own "pod" classes. If you want to dance from home, they can create a zoom class as well. Classes for boys and girls ages 2 and up.


Mask are mandatory. Everyone fills out a hygiene questionnaire form. Temperature check every time you enter the gym. New hand sink by the front desk and everyone must wash their hands before working out. Cleaning station: everyone will grab a clean rag and disinfectant spray bottle and will clean any equipment before use and after use. Washing hands on the way out is recommended but not mandatory. Wall sanitizer stations throughout the gym Sanitizing wipes throughout the gym

Westchester Sandbox Theatre

All in-person classes and activities will require masks to be worn. (We intend to have clear masks on hand for our students so we can see their faces as they perform!) Class and activity sizes will be kept small. Our cleaning schedule has become increasingly vigorous as well, with a new sanitizing service and weekly deep cleaning. Hand sanitizer stations are available throughout the studio as well.



Safety Protocols at Rockland Businesses

Bach to Rock Nanuet

We can accommodate a student-teacher distance of at least 10 feet, with clear barriers between teacher and student. We will also have proper signage around the school indicating 6 feet of spacing. Lesson times will be staggered to minimize students’ entry and exit overlap. Anyone who enters the school will have their temperature taken and be required to wear a face mask, disposable masks available for those who need them. Touchless hand sanitizer dispensers available throughout. Teachers and students must sanitize or wash hands before and after each lesson. Major touching surfaces and instruments are cleaneda throughout the day. Students are encouraged to bring their own instrument. Daily cleaning procedures include sanitizing each room multiple times a day. Virtual lessons are still available for those who are not comfortable returning just yet. 

Coupe Theatre Studio

Masks are required and social distancing-grid makers are in all studios. There is increased disinfecting, hand sanitizer, and a limited number of students allowed in the studio. No visitors are allowed in the studio. 

Safety Protocols at Long Island Businesses

Center for Science Teaching and Learning

Camp capacity has been reduced to allow for proper social distancing. Kids are spaced on opposite ends of tables and have individual activity stations. Masks are required during group activities or when social distancing is not possible. All items touched during activities are sanitized before being used by another group. All tables are wiped and disinfected several times throughout the day. For the upcoming school year, CSTL's Nature Kids and Tiny Tots programs will be practicing similar protocols, as well as special events.

Chamberlain International School

Wear masks or face coverings, physically distance, and wash and sanitize hands often. Stay home when you are not feeling well.

Countryside Montessori School

Children and staff will wear face coverings. Everyone will have their temperature taken before entering the building and again later in the day. Upon entering the building, everyone must wash their hands. Common surfaces are wiped down very often during the day. The classroom is spaced out and plexiglass dividers are on tables where more than one child will sit. Parents are not allowed in. We added 4-in-1 air cleaning systems into the classrooms. One child per bathroom at a time. Teachers will supervise hand washing after bathroom use. Staggered playground times and children will wash hands after. The playground will be sanitized between groups by a staff member. At the conclusion of the day, the entire facility will be sprayed down.

Defining Imagery Photographers

For your safety in creating your treasured heirloom portraits, we have moved all of our sessions outdoors and we are following NY guidelines for social distancing and wearing masks, so that you can finally reveal those beautiful smiles to be captured in amazing photographs that you'll treasure for a lifetime!

Harbor Child Care

Harbor Child Care is following the requirements of the CDC, NYSDOH, and the NYS Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS). We have new safety standards in place since June 1 as well as social distancing guidelines to help protect our children, families, and staff during these unprecedented times. We have five locations in Nassau County (Glen Cove, New Hyde Park, Manhasset, Mineola and Uniondale) and our staff wears protective facial coverings throughout the day. Cleaning and disinfecting occurs before the children arrive in the morning and after they leave in the afternoon and additional cleaning service is done in the evening.

Huntington Center for Performing Arts

If your student or anyone in your family is sick or experiencing symptoms, please do not come to class. Everyone must wear a mask upon entering and exiting the facility. Students are urged to wear a mask during class. All studios are now equipped with medical grade HEPA air filters, which remove 99.97 percent of contaminants. All students must wash their hands before and after class and wipe down their barre after class. Barres will be fully sanitized between classes. Classes will be limited to 10 students and everyone will maintain social distancing of at least six feet throughout, both within the center and at their own place at the barre or in the studio. There will be markers on the floor and barre to help aid students with appropriate distancing. Students must be dropped off and picked up in the courtyard in front of the Center. No parents or siblings will be permitted in the building during class. Please have your student come dressed, ready to dance. 

Music Institute of Long Island

 Before entering MILI, all staff, parents, and students will have their temperature taken. Those will elevated temperatures will not be permitted to enter the building. All staff, students and parents must wash or sanitize their hands upon arrival at MILI and in between lessons regularly.  A sink with soap and paper towels and/or disinfectant is available to all.  Only one customer and child may enter the MILI at a time. All persons must wear a face mask while at our premises. Sanitizing wipes will be used regularly to clean surfaces and objects before and after usage. Doorknobs, telephones, keyboards, sanitary facilities, etc. are disinfected at regularly.  Items that are shared are regularly cleaned and disinfected. Instruments will be disinfected before and after each use. Clients and staff who are not in perfect health should stay home and may not enter the workshop. Clients and staff who suddenly feel unwell should leave the shop at once. COVID-19 Infected employees will isolate themselves for 14 days. Inform customers and staff of regulations and procedures. Will implement and adapt safeguards to ensure adequate protection for vulnerable people. Will maintain protective supplies (soap, disinfectant, PPE)
