Living History tours - Vanderbilt Museum

Living History tours are given every saturday and sunday, beginning on Memorial Day weekend and running through Labor Day weekend. Historical characters, as well as household staff, are portrayed by Museum staff member-actors, in costume and in character -- in Downton Abbey fashion -- as upstairs guests and downstairs servants. The stories visitors hear are taken from the oral histories of local people who worked on the Vanderbilt household staff. The 45-minute tours are a summer highlight at the Mansion. Visitors step into a time machine where they might meet aviation pioneer Howard Hughes, fashion designer Coco Chanel or the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. They were among Willie and Rosamund Vanderbilt's prominent friends, and were summer house guests of the family. Weekends, May 24-September 1.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the 1964-65 World�s Fair, NYSCI is collaborating with Queens Historical Society curator, Richard Hourahan, to bring the history of science at the World�s Fairs to NYSCI with a photo exhibit. The ideas, the excitement, and the latest achievements, hopes and fears are told through a compelling series of black and white photographs and audio and video excerpts of the presentations, exhibits and visitors who flocked to the fairs. Relive the School Days of Planting Fields!Before Planting Fields was a State Park and arboretum, it was William Robertson Coe�s estate, purchased in 1913. Mr. Coe arranged for Planting Fields to be gifted to New York State upon his death, and used as a school of horticulture, and later was part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system for 16 years. This exhibition is open daily and runs through September 30.

On this day for children and adults with special needs, Sky Zone dials down the music, increases the staff ratio, and limits capacity. The Sky Zone team understands the need to provide families affected by autism with a recurring session time where individuals can learn the rules and practice them in a safe and comfortable environment so they can eventually generalize these skills and be fully integrated at any time.
