'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone' - Jacob Burns Film Center

Who doesn’t love the Harry Potter movies, based on J.K Rowling’s wildly popular series of books? Here’s where it all begins: meet Harry, an orphan who lives with his unpleasant relatives, the Dursleys, who pick on him and force him to sleep in a closet. But everything changes on Harry’s 11th birthday when a mysterious bearded man delivers a letter from Hogwarts, a prestigious boarding school for witches and wizards. A whirlwind of a journey ensues, complete with magic wands, flying brooms, and a dark force Harry must confront if he is to discover the truth about his past.

'Feeding Time!' - Maritime Aquarium
January 12, 2019 - Norwalk

Make the early rounds and help as Aquarium staff feeds an amazing assortment of hungry animals. Prior to the Aquarium opening for the morning, participants can take a turn feeding the diamondback terrapins, horseshoe crabs, and rays. They’ll enjoy a close connection with a trainer during a private feeding of the harbor seals. Best of all, they’ll go behind-the-scenes as an aquarist feeds the big sharks in the Aquarium’s Ocean Beyond the Sound exhibit – with the chance to toss in some food to see who’s hungry. 

Advance registration is required.

Aquarium Yoga - Maritime Aquarium
January 12, 2019 - Norwalk

This unique slow flow yoga class takes place in the serene environment in front of the big sharks before the Aquarium opens. 

Mantra Yoga & Aerial Arts in Stamford will lead this all-levels class, which is for ages 14 and older. Modifications will be offered for beginners, as well as for advanced practitioners. Class ends with each student receiving a shoulder and neck massage to ease them into their final resting pose. 

A limited number of mats are available; please bring your own, if possible. Class size limited, so advance registration strongly recommended.

Saw Mill River Audubon Second Saturday Walk - Brinton Brook Sanctuary
January 12, 2019 - Croton-on-Hudson

These monthly walks will continue year-round on second Saturdays. Good for ages 8 and up. No pre-registration necessary. For weather cancellations check the website at sawmillriveraudubon.org.

Family Art Project: Sunrise, Sunset - Wave Hill

With Wave Hill’s grounds as inspiration, design your favorite dawn or dusk landscape with the silhouette of a forest, city skyline, or bridge. Create the multitude of shades in the twilight sky by blending together different colors of paint and using dyed tissue paper to construct your stunning scenes.

Disney's 'Beauty & the Beast' - White Plains Performing Arts Center

The Winter Extravaganza Baseball Card Show - Westchester County Center

Thousands of autographed/game used inserts, modern and vintage sports cards (pre-1900s through current), factory/hand collated sets (new and old), hobby and wax boxes - all sports and non-sport, graded cards - PSA/BGS/SGC commons and set fillers for your new or old sets. Sports and card supplies, ball holders and autographed holders, on-site autograph authentication (JSA or PSA). It's the largest show in the tri-state area.

Winter Wolves for Kids - Wolf Conservation Center

This is the best introduction to wolves for families with young children. Kids will learn about the mythology surrounding wolves and the important role of wolves in the natural world. This is an exciting time for wolves; they're out searching for prey as their growing pups experience their first winter season. Guests will visit Ambassador Wolves Alawa, Nikai, and Zephyr, as well as potentially behold the WCC’s critically endangered red wolves and Mexican gray wolves. Guests will enjoy hot beverages in a woodstove-heated classroom. Dress for cold weather. Pre-registration is required.

Seal-Spotting & Birding Cruises - Maritime Aquarium
Through January 27, 2019 - Norwalk

Journey out onto Long Island Sound in hopes of seeing some of the seals and waterfowl that spend the winter just off the shores. These invigorating cruises seek out the harbor seals and gray seals that come into the Sound each winter. Maritime Aquarium educators will point out these federally protected marine mammals and talk about their natural histories. They’ll also help identify such winter waterfowl as buffleheads, mergansers, and long-tailed ducks. 

Binoculars will be provided. The Aquarium’s boat has a climate-controlled cabin but, because the best viewing is outside on the deck, participants should bring plenty of warm clothes. All passengers must be at least 42 inches tall. Space is limited so advance reservations are strongly recommended. Walk-up tickets will be sold, space permitting.
