Popular Rockland-based children’s musicians The Bossy Frog Band released its new CD, 15 Songs Every Kid Should Know (and will LOVE)!, in August. More than 40 musicians recorded the songs on the album, which include “Old McDonald,” “Skip to My Lou,” “Froggie Went a Courtin’,” and more, in styles such as bluegrass, rockabilly, jazz, and funk.

Lead singer and guitar and banjo player Jeffrey Friedberg, MA, MT-BC, certified music therapist and owner of Bossy Frog Productions LLC, now offers music classes for children and music therapy for children with special needs. The Bossy Frog & Me music classes, for ages 18 months to 6 years and their caregivers, are held at the Palisades Center (1000 Palisades Center Drive in West Nyack) on Tuesdays at 10am, 11am, and 1pm and at the Darien Nature Center (120 Brookside Road in Darien, CT) on Mondays at 10am, 11am, and 1pm. Bossy Frog helps Friedberg lead the classes, and parents can register at any time.

“Music is a wonderfully healthy activity for kids to learn that gets them thinking, moving, and feeling,” Friedberg says. “The goal is to help children learn to love music in a social setting and to be physically active with music.”

The music therapy for children with special needs, which are private sessions held in Rockland County, help children with developmental difficulties and delays build social, communication, and expressive skills. Friedberg says he hopes to offer group music therapy sessions in the near future.
