Carnegie Hall to Host ‘My City My Song’ Family Concert in December

My City My Song will be performed at Carnegie Hall on Dec. 16 at 12pm and 3pm.

The interactive family concert features three New York City-based musicians: Ilusha Tsinadze, Imani Uzuri, and Emeline Michel, who will introduce audiences to music from around the world that can also be found right in NYC. Tsinadze will perform traditional and original Georgian folk songs, Uzuri will perform Freedom Songs from the Civil Rights Movement, and Michel will perform songs from Haiti.

“The My City, My Song family concerts introduce children and families to music from around the world, inspired by musical traditions that can be heard throughout New York City’s neighborhoods,” says Sarah Johnson, director of Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute. “We are thrilled to present three fantastic artists who will take audience members on a journey through some of the rich and diverse musical styles that can be found right here in this city. We hope the performance…will get young people listening, singing, and moving to the vibrant sounds of their communities.”

The My City, My Song concerts grew out of Carnegie Hall’s Musical Explorers program, an initiative for students in kindergarten to second grade in NYC public schools. The program teaches basic music skills and gives children an opportunity to study songs from different cultures. This season Musical Explorers will impact more than 5,000 students in NYC. In addition to the public family concerts, thousands of students will visit Carnegie Hall with their classes to see the interactive performances.

One hour prior to each performance, guests can take part in pre-show activities in Zankel Hall. Tickets for the show are $10.
