Visitors to the Clay Art Center in Westchester County will be able to see a 60-year visual history of the ceramic art center and gallery space.

REWIND, a 60-year visual history of the Clay Art Center in Port Chester, opened on Jan. 29 and is running until March 25. In celebration of the milestone anniversary, 70 past and present Clay Art Center artists have ceramic works on display, along with stories of the development of the nonprofit and its grassroots beginnings. Visitors will be able to experience oral histories on-site (and online) and are welcome to schedule a docent tour as well.

“When I first came to Clay Art Center in 1997 it was the best-kept secret known only in the clay world and not to the general public. Through this first exhibition titled REWIND, and all year long as we celebrate our 60th anniversary, I am excited to share with you and the community at large our rich history," said curator Reena Kashyap in a press release.

In addition to REWIND, the 60th anniversary year will also be celebrated through a series of classes, exhibits, and events. The yearlong focus is entitled RE/CLAY and will celebrate the past, present, and future of clay. The five core exhibitions will run from Jan. 28–Nov. 11. There will also be community exhibits, a walking tour in New York City, workshops, lectures, and a culminating symposium.

Clay Art Center was founded in 1957 by Katherine Choy and Henry Okamoto. It is now an 11,000-square-foot nonprofit art center that delivers programming for students, collectors, professional artists, and the Port Chester community. Gallery and shop hours are Monday through Friday 10am-6pm and Saturday 10am-4pm.
