What does it look like when you combine the freedom of summer, the beauty of nature, the unbridled joy of kids creating without fear of failure, inspiration and mentorship from teachers who are themselves talented art-makers — oh yeah, and FUN? Join us at an upcoming Open House and learn just how special a summer at Usdan can be. During each event, the campus is yours to visit and explore. Refreshments, information, and 2019 registration will be available throughout the day. Families who sign up for the 2019 summer at an Open House will receive a chance to “spin to win” merchandise or a tuition discount. There is significant walking involved; please wear comfortable shoes.

Family Sundays - Nassau County Museum of Art

Converse, collaborate and create together during Family Sundays. Each week explore new art materials, vocabulary, and ideas in the studio with a museum educator. Family Sundays provide children and the adults in their lives the opportunity to take time from their busy lives to reconnect while talking about and making art together. New Projects are featured every week. All Family Sundays will draw inspiration from the current exhibition. Families can begin at 1pm  with a Tour in the Mansion or just drop in the studio between 1:30-4pm.

33rd Annual Arbor Day Family Festival - Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and the Planting Fields Foundation are pleased to announce that the 33rd annual Arbor Day Family Festival. Since 1987, Planting Fields has commemorated national Arbor Day with a festival of fun-filled activities and entertainment. Arbor Day celebrates the importance of trees and the preservation of our environment. The 2019 Arbor Day Family Festival features exciting children's crafts, activities, tree climbing for children, plant clinics, and tree plantings with Smokey Bear in which everyone can participate, along with free self-guided visits of Coe Hall. The Festival is a collaborative effort between Planting Fields Foundation and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.

Activities Include: Tree planting ceremonies with Smokey Bear, Live music with Peat Moss & the Fertilizers, Tree seedling giveaways provided by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation- plant a tree of your own at home! Green industry associations in the Hay Barn, Tree climbing for children with safety harness, supervised by trained professionals from Wonderland Tree Care, Inc., Children's crafts, caricaturists and children's book readings, Plant Clinic by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Nassau County Long Island Bonsai Society Exhibition in the South Lounge, Guided garden tours at historic Coe Hall Tree Planting Sponsors Include: LIAA (Long Island Arborist Association), LINLA (Long Island Nursery Landscape Association, National Grid and NSLGA (Nassau Suffolk Landscape Gardiner's Association)

Wantagh Spring Festival - The Kiwanis Club of Wantagh

The Kiwanis Club of Wantagh will host the annual Wantagh Spring Festival at the Wantagh Train Station. This quarter mile-long event alongside Sunrise Highway will feature a giant craft mall featuring more than 70 craft and merchandise vendors, inflatable children’s rides, live entertainment, and a food court. The rain date for the event is Saturday, May 4.

Now entering its 50th season, the Long Island Game Farm and Wildlife Park & Children's Zoo will officially open on Friday, April 19. During the opening weeks, guests will have the opportunity to learn about the new baby animals, including chicks, bunnies, ducklings, calves, and kid goats, and will be able to pet and hand-feed the animals once they are born. They will also be able to enjoy the amusement rides, including the carousel, spinning tea cups, and pony rides.

A unique opportunity for children to get a taste of camp while parents attend an interactive information session. Children ages 2-9 are treated to free camp activities including playground time, arts and crafts, gymnastics, Wii games or sports. Join instructor, Hannah Ritter, for the Spring Pysanka workshops, April 7th and May 5th! The Spring workshops will feature floral designs based on traditional motifs. Beginners will complete a Pysanka in approximately 2 1/2 hours. Several designs and color variations will be presented, and dye color choices will be available. Sessions will be suitable for both beginners and experienced eggers, and students can attend both sessions.

SAT & ACT Practice Exams - Sylvan of Huntington

Sylvan of Huntington will now be offering SAT and ACT Practice Tests every Saturday. If your child will be preparing to take their SAT or ACT exams this winter or spring, then what better way to start the process then by mapping out their strengths and weaknesses. Practice exams will run on Saturdays from 9:30-12:30 pm. Afterwards, families will be invited back to sit down with a director and get a detailed report which will analyze exactly how their child did and where they can improve. Sylvan offers prep programs year round for both the SAT and ACT and interested students can sign up for courses to help get ready for the big day.
