Kids' Summer Gardening Workshops - Ridge Hill

Bring the little ones to the Ridge Hill Community Garden's Summer Workshop for Kids. Members from Kaleidoscope Garden Design will lead hands-on activities in the garden including planting, watering, mulching, harvesting, and even tasting! There will also be crafts and other take-home projects during the workshops. Workshops are geared for kids ages 3 to 8 (parent/guardian participation recommended for younger gardeners). Space is limited and advance registration is required. Ridge Hill Community Garden is located at the corner of Market Street and Lembo Street, near Whole Foods Market.

Marine Life Encounter Cruises - Maritime Aquarium

Meet an amazing variety of fish, crabs, mollusks and other creatures brought up right out of Long Island Sound right before your eyes during a new season of Marine Life Encounter Cruises with The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk. The 2.5-hour Marine Life Encounter Cruises reveal what is, to many, a surprising diversity of marine life just off the shores in Long Island Sound. Aquarium educators put participants to work in collecting and examining animals from all levels of the water column: tiny wriggly plankton gathered at the surface (and viewed on a large monitor via a videomicroscope), little crabs and worms grabbed from the muddy bottom, and a variety of fish, crabs, squid, mollusks and surprises brought up in a trawl net.

Pack Chat for Kids - Wolf Conservation Center

This is the best introduction to wolves for families with young children. Kids will learn about the mythology surrounding wolves and the important role of wolves in the natural world. This is exciting time for wolves; they are out searching for prey as their pups grow bigger and bolder! Guests will visit Ambassador Wolves Alawa, Nikai and Zephyr, and possibly the WCC’s critically endangered red wolves and Mexican gray wolves as well. Pre-registration is required.

Young Discoverers: Let's Explore The Shore! - Westchester Children's Museum

Learn something new with the Westchester Children's Museum in their weekly science-based "drop-in" program designed for children ages 2-5, made even more exciting with simple experiments and craft projects! This summer, we the museum is taking full advantage of their wonderful location. Educators will bring out water tables with toys, shells and small toy water animals. Dig for "treasures" and enjoy water play. When the children come into the classroom they will sing a new song, play a movement game, and hear the story "On the Edge of the Sea" by Betty Paraskeras. Pretend to be water animals. Can you guess what I am? Everyone will be able to create a special craft to take home that will remind them of their trip to the shore! Everyone join in the outdoor fun! Sign ups begin when the Museum opens at 10am and are limited to the first 12 children on a first come, first serve basis.

Summer Sounds Concert Series - Hudson Park

New Rochelle's historic Hudson Park will once again be filled with the "sound of music" as the New Rochelle Council on the Arts presents its annual summer concert series. The Emil Paolucci Summer Sounds Concert Series will enter its 12th season with an eclectic lineup of musicians performing everything from mellow jazz to classical opera to Latin, Motown, reggae and even a little "yacht rock." This year the summer season opens with Forever Ray, a tribute band that performs the exciting and uplifting music of Ray Charles-  a wonderful blend of styles ranging from jazz and blues to country and R&B. In all, music lovers will get to hear exciting live music on 10 consecutive Wednesdays, plus five Friday concerts in July and August.

Maritime Aquarium Norwalk Islands Cruises - Maritime Aquarium

Enjoy a narrated evening cruise around the Norwalk islands. These two-hour outings with aquarium educators will offer information and tales about Shea, Chimon, Tavern, and other islands just off the Norwalk harbor, as well as about the three lighthouses that the cruises will pass: Pecks Ledge, Greens Ledge and Sheffield Island. They’ll also point out waterfowl and provide details about the Sound’s marine life. Primarily, though, the cruises are a nice evening boat ride out onto the Sound. Food and drink is not available for purchase on the boat. You may bring food and beverages in a small bag or soft-sided cooler. Glass bottles are prohibited

Sunset Jazz Concerts Thursday Evenings - Lyndhurst
Through August 29, 2019 - Tarrytown

Relax on Lyndhurst’s great lawn and enjoy cool music by hot jazz artists! The grounds open at 4:00 pm, music begins at 6:00 pm. There is a $5 per person parking fee. The site is also accessible by walking the Old Croton Aqueduct trail. Dogs are allowed on-leash. Concerts are on the west lawn overlooking the Hudson River. Rain call made by 3 pm and announced online and on Facebook. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or low-profile lawn chairs and may bring or purchase a picnic supper on site.

Assembling Art: Works by Vin Giuliani - Bruce Museum

Opening Saturday, August 3, 2019, the Bruce Museum's newest exhibition, Assembling Art: Works by Vin Giuliani, will display the creations of Greenwich native Vincent “Vin” Giuliani, who transformed scrap wood, trinkets, and a colorful variety of found objects into artistic assemblages that represent everything from kitschy Americana to questions about the human psyche. This exhibition will feature a family friendly art assembly zone. Using found objects provided by the Museum, participants of all ages are invited to create unique pieces inspired by Giuliani’s work and by their own experiences and imaginations. Visitors will leave their assembled artwork for other participants to add to or to completely re-imagine.

Kids Create Like Burle Marx! - The New York Botanical Garden

Cooking demonstrations, presented by Whole Foods Market®, encourage families to get hands-on with healthy cooking. New recipes featuring plants grown in the Edible Academy are offered each week. Kids and adults alike will learn how garden-to-table cooking is not only nutritious, but fun, too.

The farmers market is a showcase for farm produce raised just a few hours from the Sound Shore.
