The Sparrow Sisters at Norman and Jules Backyard - Norman and Jules

Fishing Clinics - Brooklyn Bridge Park

Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy (Conservancy) and Brooklyn Bridge Park (BBP) are offering over 500 free and low-cost events over the course of the summer, which marks the 20th Anniversary of the Conservancy's free, public programing in BBP. This summer, the Conservancy is proud to announce the launch of brand-new Fishing Clinics for kids and adults. Participants can learn how to tie fishing knots, bait a hook, cast a fishing rod, and even reel up a fish. Guided by a marine biologist and expert anglers, they will learn the basics of line fishing, while catch-and-releasing some of Brooklyn Bridge Park's aquatic organisms. The clinics are produced in part by the New York Department of Environmental Conservation, and equipment is provided on-site. While sessions are drop-in, participants are encouraged to RSVP on the website so that instructors can gauge flow. 

Public Art: Bridge Over Tree - Brooklyn Bridge Park

The newest Public Art Fund installation, Iranian artist Siah Armajani’s Bridge Over Tree, is now open at Empire Fulton Ferry Lawn.

Armajani’s artwork features a 91-foot-long walkway with a set of stairs that rise and fall over a single evergreen tree, inviting us to experience the idea of a bridge in a new way.

Green Team provides essential horticultural care to the Park, including planting, mulching, and removing invasive plants. Green Team is a wonderful opportunity to learn about gardening, enjoy nature, and make the Park look its best.

All volunteers must fill out a waiver and bring it to their first volunteer activity in the park. Volunteers 18 years old or younger should submit their waiver signed by a parent or guardian before any activity begins; volunteers 16 years old or younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. No experience necessary.

Open Run is a new community-based initiative that empowers local volunteers to bring free weekly runs to local neighborhood parks all over NYC. All runs are directed by volunteers and are free to all participants. The finish line is open until the last person is done. The courses vary based on park, but they are between 2½-3 miles.

Participants are encouraged to arrive 15 minutes before the start of the run and to leave their valuables at home as bag check is not provided. No need to do anything before the run, just show up. Open to all ages, experience levels, walkers, strollers, dogs: All are welcome.

Sunday Bookseller Story Time - Greenlight Bookstore

Neighborhood families are invited to join the booksellers of Greenlight for story time every Sunday morning. Greenlight staff choose their favorite read-alouds to share with the youngest booklovers, with great books ranging from classics and award-winners to the best new releases and local favorites.

Transit Tots - New York Transit Museum

Head to the New York Transit Museum every Thursday for stories, art exploration, and hands-on investigations of fun themes such as animals underground, the people and buildings of New York City, colors and shapes, and, of course, the city's subways and buses! Free with admission. For ages 2-5 and adult companions.
