Reframing Parenting; Suffolk Winter Series - Suffolk Independent Living Organization

A free workshop series for adoptive and guardianship parents raising children with adverse childhood experiences or difficult past histories. During this six week series, parents will explore: Building connections with your child before correcting their misbehaviors by using an attitude of play, acceptance, curiosity, and empathy. Supporting your child through their sometimes difficult behavior to get them back on track to more socially acceptable behavior. Concepts of self-care, figure out where your relationship with your child is blocked and how to deepen connections with them. Refreshments and childcare provided. Winter Engineer Club - Suffolk County Farm

Hidden in Sight: Photographing Incarceration - Hofstra University Museum

The United States has the highest rate of incarceration of any country in the world, with over 2 million people currently imprisoned. This exhibition features photographs spanning more than 50 years by three artists, Danny Lyon (American, born 1942), Jessica Earnshaw (Canadian, born 1983), and Isadora Kosofsky (American, born 1993), highlighting the varied critical issues within the prison system in America.

The librarians are selecting a variety of teen books and wrapping them so your date’s identity will be a surprise. Check your book out as you normally would, then take it home to unwrap. Will it be a romance, mystery, thriller? Each book comes with a rate your date slip, Stud or Dud. Write a brief comment about your date and return the slip to the Teen Zone by March 15 to be entered in a raffle for a prize.
Oh Shift for Teens - Mid Island Y JCC

OH Shift Teen workshop led by empowerment coach, Keith Senzer, is based on the book by Jen Powers, this interactive 6 week, FREE workshop helps teens become more confident, build self-awareness and learn how to take control of their actions/reactions. Sponsored by The Sophia Valsamos Foundation, a 501 (c) 3 non profit foundation, whose mission is to empower youth to take a stand against bullying, find support around challenges, and celebrate each others differences. Afterschool Lego League - Children's Museum of the East End

Seal Walks - Montauk Point State Park
Through March 31, 2019 - Montauk
Montauk Point State Park will host a series of walks to observe wintering seals. A State Park naturalist will lead visitors on a leisurely beach walk to an area where up to four species of seals can be observed. Along the way, there will be opportunities to see many winter birds and to explore marine geology. Binoculars are recommended. The walk is approximately 3 miles long and will take 2-3 hours to complete. Participants are asked to please dress appropriately, wear footwear appropriate for hiking, and meet at the Montauk Point Lighthouse Grill and concession stand at least 10 minutes prior to the start time. Reservations required.

Rolling River Day Camp Prospective Family Day - Rolling River Day Camp

A unique opportunity for children to get a taste of camp while parents attend an interactive information session. Children ages 2-9 are treated to free camp activities including playground time, arts and crafts, gymnastics, Wii games or sports. New Traveling Exhibit- Sonic Sensation - Long Island Children's Museum

SAT & ACT Practice Exams - Sylvan of Huntington

Sylvan of Huntington will now be offering SAT and ACT Practice Tests every Saturday. If your child will be preparing to take their SAT or ACT exams this winter or spring, then what better way to start the process then by mapping out their strengths and weaknesses. Practice exams will run on Saturdays from 9:30-12:30 pm. Afterwards, families will be invited back to sit down with a director and get a detailed report which will analyze exactly how their child did and where they can improve. Sylvan offers prep programs year round for both the SAT and ACT and interested students can sign up for courses to help get ready for the big day.
