Inspirations and Tributes: An African American Lineage - The New York Philharmonic, Merkin Concert Hall

The program, titled “Games and Toys,” is the first installment in Philharmonic Playdates, the season’s theme that imagines playdates with the Orchestra. Hosted by Philharmonic Associate Principal Viola Rebecca Young, the program will feature selections from Schubert’s Piano Quintet, Trout, performed by Philharmonic violinist Yulia Ziskel, violist Rémi Pelletier, cellist Qiang Tu, bassist Satoshi Okamoto, and pianist Eric Huebner. Designer Doug Fitch — with whom the Philharmonic has collaborated on several acclaimed staged productions, and who began his involvements in Philharmonic VYPCs in January 2017 — will design and direct the performance.

Seasonal Scavenger Hunt - Hudson Highlands Nature Museum's Outdoor Discovery Center

Families will receive a set of clues to solve nature riddles along Outdoor Discovery Center trails. Each family will need to work as a team as they hike along the trails, complete the hunt, and receive a small prize. Enjoy free same day admission to the Wildlife Education Center after paid attendance.

Full Moon & Owl Prowl - Tenafly Nature Center

New Jersey is teeming with night life, and owls are some of the state’s star creatures of the night. Join a Tenafly Nature Center Environmental Educator for a short introduction to these raptors and a visit from a live owl. Afterwards, the group will venture outside in search of nocturnal feathered friends. Registration is required.

16th Annual Holiday Train Show - Transit Museum Gallery Annex & Store, Grand Central Terminal

Kids can watch in awe as little Lionel trains roll along a 34-foot-long, two-level track that looks just like a mini NYC with a nearby countryside. The scenery even includes its very own North Pole. Plus, parents will love spying vintage trains from the Transit Museum’s collection.

Rock Steady Yoga Tween Flow: for ages 10-12

Facilitated by Deirdre O'Reilly,  this class is specifically designed for tweens allowing for the opportunity to build strength and flexibility while relieving the stress of daily life. Along with active yoga poses, balance poses, partner poses, breathing techniques, and relaxation, journaling, music, art, and games will also be weaved into the classes. Public Ice Skating - Wollman Rink

Ice skating out in the crisp city air with an amazing view of the Manhattan skyline is a classic NYC winter experience. And Central Park's famous rink is a tourist favorite, but completely worth doing even if you are a local. There is also a skating school, a hockey program, and birthday party offerings on the ice. Check out the nearby carousel for $3 a ride in between skates.

Ice Skating Season - The Rink at Rockefeller Center
Through April 01, 2018 - Midtown

The new season opens with this ceremonial first skate hosted by the reigning Olympic Ice Dance Champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White. Youth skaters of Ice Theatre of New York and Figure Skating in Harlemwill join for this celebratory session. 

The Rink at Rockefeller Center is always the first New York rink to open each year and is open to the public daily from 8:30am-12am, from Columbus Day to Easter. First designed as a temporary attraction, The Rink has evolved into one of the city’s most legendary landmarks and one of the most visited sites in Manhattan.
