Usdan Summer Camp For The Arts’ Open House - Usdan Summer Camp for the Arts

What does it look like when you combine the freedom of summer, the beauty of nature, the unbridled joy of kids creating without fear of failure, inspiration and mentorship from teachers who are themselves talented art-makers — oh yeah, and FUN? Join us at an upcoming Open House and learn just how special a summer at Usdan can be. During each event, the campus is yours to visit and explore. Refreshments, information, and 2019 registration will be available throughout the day. Families who sign up for the 2019 summer at an Open House will receive a chance to “spin to win” merchandise or a tuition discount. There is significant walking involved; please wear comfortable shoes.

The Museum’s distinct Let’s Explore Backpacks offer activity-filled ways for children (ages 5-12) and adult companions to explore together the outdoor sculpture collection on the University’s beautiful campus. Children then create their own works of art to take home. Various backpack themes are available. All backpack activities are FREE!

Breastfeeding Support Group- For Mothers and Babies - North Shore University Hospital- 4 Katz Family Lounge

You and your baby are invited to attend our breastfeeding support group every week. A place where you can share, learn and support each other, mother-to-mother, in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Discussions are facilitated by a lactation consultant covering many topics including postpartum adjustment, feeding, sleeping, normal newborn behavior and going back to work.

The Great Art Caper - Hofstra University Museum
January 29, 2019 - Hempstead

Children and adult companions uncover clues to help solve an Art Caper mystery in the outdoor sculpture collection on Hofstra University’s South Campus. Children become detectives and have fun while discovering more about these works. Pick up all backpack and caper activity materials at the Emily Lowe Gallery during open hours year-round until 3 p.m. Return all backpacks by 4 p.m. and keep your completed works of art. All caper activities are FREE.

Community Gallery – The Art of Keith Haring - Long Island Children's Museum

Keith Haring’s artwork is known for his use of universal figures. This symbol is popular among children who respond to the movement visible in the figures. After learning about the artist’s life and the impact of his art, fifth grade students from the Marion G. Vedder School in North Babylon created their own Keith Haring-inspired figures.

Friday Night In - Westhampton Free Library

Every Friday from 5:00-9:00pm, the Library will be closed to everyone except Tweens and Teens (grades 4-12). Activities vary week to week. Participants must arrive before 7:00pm when the doors will be locked for the evening. Participants can leave when they wish, but re-admittance will not be allowed. During this time, we will have a variety of activities, including video games, board games, movies, and much more. In order to participate in Friday Night In, each child must have a permission slip signed by a parent/guardian and parents must come to the library to sign the permission slip in person.

Reframing Parenting; Suffolk Winter Series - Suffolk Independent Living Organization

A free workshop series for adoptive and guardianship parents raising children with adverse childhood experiences or difficult past histories. During this six week series, parents will explore: Building connections with your child before correcting their misbehaviors by using an attitude of play, acceptance, curiosity, and empathy. Supporting your child through their sometimes difficult behavior to get them back on track to more socially acceptable behavior. Concepts of self-care, figure out where your relationship with your child is blocked and how to deepen connections with them. Refreshments and childcare provided. Hidden in Sight: Photographing Incarceration - Hofstra University Museum

The United States has the highest rate of incarceration of any country in the world, with over 2 million people currently imprisoned. This exhibition features photographs spanning more than 50 years by three artists, Danny Lyon (American, born 1942), Jessica Earnshaw (Canadian, born 1983), and Isadora Kosofsky (American, born 1993), highlighting the varied critical issues within the prison system in America.

SAT & ACT Practice Exams - Sylvan of Huntington

Sylvan of Huntington will now be offering SAT and ACT Practice Tests every Saturday. If your child will be preparing to take their SAT or ACT exams this winter or spring, then what better way to start the process then by mapping out their strengths and weaknesses. Practice exams will run on Saturdays from 9:30-12:30 pm. Afterwards, families will be invited back to sit down with a director and get a detailed report which will analyze exactly how their child did and where they can improve. Sylvan offers prep programs year round for both the SAT and ACT and interested students can sign up for courses to help get ready for the big day.
