A Year with Frog and Toad - YMCA Boulton Center

Live Performance Based on Arnold Lobel's well-loved books, and featuring a hummable score by Robert and Willie Reale, this whimsical show follows two great friends- the cheerful, popular Frog and the rather grumpy Toad- through four fun-filled seasons. Waking from hibernation in the Spring, Frog and Toad plant gardens, swim, rake leaves, go sledding and learn life lessons along the way. The two best friends celebrate and rejoice in the differences that make them unique and special. Part vaudeville, part make believe- all charm, A Year with Frog and Toad tells the story of a friendship that endures throughout the seasons. The jazzy, upbeat score of A Year with Frog and Toad bubbles with melody and wit, making it an inventive, exuberant and enchanting musical for the whole family. It is a perfect show to be performed by an ensemble group of actors and can be produced with either simple or extravagant staging and sets.

Glow-ga: A Cosmic Experience - Syosset Public Library

This cosmic yoga and mindfulness experience takes place in the dark with glow sticks lighting the way as you explore the universe through different poses like space rocks, star and rocketship. The session concludes with a guided meditation called Mission: Peace and create a mindfulness jar to take home. Registration required.

Tower tour day: What’s the first thing a Lighthouse keeper does when he’s on the job? Climb the lighthouse of course! This day will be about climbing the wonderful 168 foot-tall lighthouse. Learn the history behind the tower and the jobs of a lighthouse keeper. Get a bird's eye view and survey the landscape with a scavenger hunt! Learn the geographic features of Long Island and Fire Island. At the end of the day you can build your very own Lighthouse! Call  to register. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Kids in the Kitchen Family Series - Long Island Children's Museum

LICM’s popular Early Childhood program expands in the summer to welcome older siblings who enjoy time in the kitchen. Little chefs use real cooking tools (with some help from adults) to make easy, yummy, kid-friendly snacks from start to finish. As they make their treat, kids gain experience measuring ingredients, following directions and building their vocabulary. Learn about healthy eating and fun ways to stay active with a new exercise activity every week! Dishes include Red, White and Blueberry Coconut Muffins, Summer Vegetable Whole-Grain Pasta Salad, BBQ Chicken Teriyaki Lettuce Wrap, and Baked Parmesan Zuccini Fries.

Citizen Science: Monarch Larva Monitoring Project - Long Island Children's Museum
Through July 26, 2019 - Garden City

Be a citizen scientist and study monarch butterflies in LICM’s Milkweed Garden. By measuring plants, rainfall and monarch eggs you will be collecting real data that scientists at the University of Minnesota Monarch Lab can analyze! Your data will help them understand butterfly migration and will help conserve this threatened species. Each Friday afternoon meet at the front desk to collect information and see how these plants are habitat for visiting monarchs. This program is made possible with the support of the Rob and Melani Walton Sustainability Solutions Initiatives at Arizona State University.

Little Farmer Explorers - Garden of Eve Farm

Tour the farm to see what's growing, taste the fruits of the field, and learn about how the plants grow. Walk around the field tasting as you go, some weeks you will harvest veggies or fruits, others you will collect eggs. Fun and educational activities for kids ages 4-10. Parents are welcome to come along, or kids can be dropped off for the program (or parents can wait at the Farm Market during the program).  Includes admission to Fun Fields play area. Part of a four week series 7/6, 7/13, 7/20, & 7/27. Not required to attend all sessions. Pre-registration recommended.

National Geographic Photo Ark by Joel Sartore - Southampton Arts Center

The International Center of Photography and Southampton Arts Center are thrilled to co-present the National Geographic Photo Ark exhibition, featuring the compelling and visually stunning work of National Geographic photographer and Fellow Joel Sartore. The exhibition will highlight Sartore's images from his work in more than 250 zoos, aquariums, and animal rescue centers around the world. Founded by Sartore in 2006, the National Geographic Photo Ark aims to document event species living in zoos and wildlife sanctuaries, inspire action through education, and help save wildlife by supporting on-the-ground conservation efforts. National Geographic is showcasing this important project through multiple platforms, including this exhibition, to inspire people not just to care, but also to help protect these animals for future generations. In addition to creating an archival record for generations to come, this project is a hopeful platform for conservation and shines a light on individuals and organizations working to preserve species around the world.
