St. Patrick's Day Slime Party - Stew Leonard's

Join Stew Leonard’s in East Meadow to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and slime!  Kids aged 10 and under will make green and gold slime, enjoy pizza and juice, and be given green and gold beads to wear. Price is per child per class and payment is required at the time of registration via Eventbrite.com. Parents/caretakers are kindly asked to register children at least 24 hours in advance. Alan Weintraub is a guitarist and songwriter from Brooklyn who composes and performs under the stage name Salvo. He plays a unique blend of Spanish, Rumba, World Fusion, Flamenco and Classical styles. Alan studied Flamenco in Granada, Spain, and holds a Master’s degree in Music Education from Columbia University. Hugo Muñoz is a guitarist, songwriter, and artist from Aguascalientes, Mexico. He plays a wide range of music from Latin Jazz to Spanish folk and is always finding new ways to play the guitar.

Rolling River Prospective Family Days - Rolling River Day Camp

Now is the time to learn more about Summer Camp 2019! Bring your family to Rolling River's innovative Prospective Family Day- a unique opportunity for children to get a taste of camp while parents attend an interactive information session. Children ages 2-9 are treated to free camp activities including playground time, arts and crafts, gymnastics, Wii games or sports. Parents can focus on obtaining important camp information knowing their kids are supervised onsite by adult camp staff. All families who enroll for Camp 2019 that day will receive a free gift. Blue-Spotted Salamander Search with Andy - South Fork Natural History Museum

Montauk’s vernal ponds are some of the few places in the world where the Blue-spotted Salamander, in its purebred form, can be found. Join Andy on this nighttime expedition as we search for this unique native species. Please bring a flashlight and wear boots, as late winter rains will make the ground soggy. This walk will take place only if there have been heavy rains. This program is for Family/Children ages 6 and older. Advance reservations are required for all events. Sponsored by The Sophia Valsamos Foundation, a 501 (c) 3 non profit foundation, whose mission is to empower youth to take a stand against bullying, find support around challenges, and celebrate each others differences. Objects Found - Huntington Arts Council

“Objects Found” features artwork that incorporates salvaged materials. Artists were asked to consider still lifes, Joseph Cornell’s ephemera-filled boxes, Tim Noble’s and Sue Webster’s discarded item assemblages, Jim Golden’s object photography, Jane Perkins’ 3D-collage portraits, etc. They were encouraged to use items they’ve found or collected—from twigs, buttons, and antiques to toys, textiles, etc.—to complete their work. Show juror Tara Leale Porter of Red Lotus Fused Glass Art creates a narrative in her own artwork through a dialogue of materials. She interweaves her fused glass with found objects that have a time-worn patina to construct stories of destruction and regeneration. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Pratt Institute and a Master of Arts in Art Therapy via Hofstra University.

If you’ve drawn before, come hone your skills in a comfortable and relaxed place and, if drawing is new for you, this is an enjoyable way to get started in an encouraging setting. Bring a 9”x12” drawing pad with a hard back for support and two drawing implements—for example, a very soft (dark) pencil (4B is good), conté crayon, or ballpoint pen. Teens 15+ and adults. Seal Walks - Montauk Point State Park

Montauk Point State Park will host a series of walks to observe wintering seals. A State Park naturalist will lead visitors on a leisurely beach walk to an area where up to four species of seals can be observed. Along the way, there will be opportunities to see many winter birds and to explore marine geology. Binoculars are recommended. The walk is approximately 3 miles long and will take 2-3 hours to complete. Participants are asked to please dress appropriately, wear footwear appropriate for hiking, and meet at the Montauk Point Lighthouse Grill and concession stand at least 10 minutes prior to the start time. Reservations required.

Just Moms - Sands Point Preserve

The Conservancy hosts "Just Moms", a weekly informational discussion group for parents of newborns to 12 months, created and facilitated by licensed therapists Amy L. Kates and Dr. Stacey G. Kaufman, who are also experienced moms. Inside the historic mansions, participants can meet fellow parents and share concerns during eight one-hour sessions. Parents are encouraged to register for all eight sessions, but are welcome to register for individual sessions. According to the co-creators, "This program is designed to make moms more comfortable in their parenting roles and, at the same time, allow them the opportunity to meet other moms in their community." Although the program is geared towards mothers who are looking to connect with other moms in the area, fathers are welcome to join.

New Traveling Exhibit- Sonic Sensation - Long Island Children's Museum

Listen up! The newest LICM traveling exhibit offers children the opportunity to see, feel and hear sound. Visitors will experience our sonic world while exploring 14 interactive learning stations. Children will discover key listening skills through the science of sound and hearing.

What You’ll Do:

•    Test your lung power in the Scream Chamber! •    Create your own movie soundtrack  •    Conduct an orchestra with your whole body •    Learn about the anatomy and physics of how we hear. •    Explore decibels, amplitude, pitch and sound waves.  •    Find hidden “animals” in kitchen cupboards by listening (no peeking!)  •    Discover ways you can protect your hearing.

SAT & ACT Practice Exams - Sylvan of Huntington

Sylvan of Huntington will now be offering SAT and ACT Practice Tests every Saturday. If your child will be preparing to take their SAT or ACT exams this winter or spring, then what better way to start the process then by mapping out their strengths and weaknesses. Practice exams will run on Saturdays from 9:30-12:30 pm. Afterwards, families will be invited back to sit down with a director and get a detailed report which will analyze exactly how their child did and where they can improve. Sylvan offers prep programs year round for both the SAT and ACT and interested students can sign up for courses to help get ready for the big day.

A Special Exhibit Celebrating Friendship and Childhood Wonder On view daily. This magical exhibit features sumptuous illustrations by the noted British artist, George H. Lewis and quotes drawn from the forthcoming book, The Boy and the Boy King, co-created by George Lewis and A.D. Lubow. The book and the exhibition touch upon the value of friendship, art, spirituality, nature and childhood imagination, themes near and dear to the Sands Point Preserve Conservancy. It's a show your entire family can enjoy together. "Arthur and Bun-Bun in The Boy and the Boy King make a brilliant case for why we need to cultivate wonder in our lives, today more than ever", Jane Curley, Curator of the acclaimed New-York Historical Society exhibitions, "Eloise at the Museum" and "Madeline in New York: The Art of Ludwig Bemelmans."
