Dance Parade - 21st Street and Broadway

The 13th annual Dance Parade returns as a joyous celebration of dance with thousands of participants performing 80+ styles of dance, including African, Tango, Salsa, Hip-Hop, Contemporary, Irish, Chinese, and more. The parade starts at 1 PM at 21st Street & Broadway, marches down Broadway to St. Mark's Place, across to Astor Place (where there is a grandstand set up for folks who like to sit), and continues east into Tompkins Square Park, where stages are set up for more dancing. 

Grow! - The Old Stone House

Follow the life cycle of an apple seed through four seasons in this lovely, interactive performance for very young children, in conjuction with Spellbound Theater. Young audiences and the storyteller plant a seed together and help it grow, while learning gentle and charming songs and ASL signs to help tell a story of seasonal growth.

Shows at 10am and 11:15am.

10:00am is a sensory friendly performance. Families who will benefit from these accommodations are encouraged to join; ticket sales will still be open to all families.

Touch-a-Truck Festival - P.S. 295

The Touch-a-Truck family street fair is returning to PS 295! More than 3,000 truck-lovers from throughout the city can climb aboard and explore a wide variety of the working vehicles they see in everyday life—and some they’ve never seen before.

Food trucks, bouncy houses, music, craft projects, and more round out the day. Held rain or shine. No charge for infants worn or carried by their parent. Tickets are required for both kids and adults.

Wildman Steve Brill celebrates 37 years of foraging with a romp through Prospect Park in mid-spring. The tour begins with spicy hedge mustard and poor man's pepper greens, growing near the Grand Army Plaza entrance, then on to a vast stand of celery-, parsley-, and carrot-flavored goutweed, with a stop along the way for violet leaves and flowers.

Create a nature-based craft to take home, working with volunteer Discovery Docents.

The Craft in Focus Festival is a three-day festival that transforms Industry City into an open workspace and presents hands-on workshops for people of all ages, master classes, and demonstrations, focusing on master craftsmanship. The rich programming of the Craft in Focus Festival is meant to appeal to a wide audience: from curious novices to skilled professionals. In a world where children are swiping their iPhones and 3D printers are building houses, and a time of serial mass production and consumption, the beauty of handmade quality products and hands-on experience of learning technique directly from an artist should be revalued. Guests can look forward to workshops including, but not limited to: calligraffiti by Dutch artist Daan Wille, airbrush by Dutch expert Marissa Oosterlee, eco-dyeing by textile institute HAWAR from the Netherlands, basketry by master Esm Hofman, along with spoon making by Brooklyn Metal Works, stained glass by Glass Art of Brooklyn, backstrap weaving by Weaving Hand, suminagashi by Textile Arts Center, robot making and boat building for children by Open Source Gallery and KokoNYC, graffiti by KEO, and much more.

ColorLab is BCM's new family art studio inspired by contemporary African-American, Afro-Caribbean, and African artists! Rotating programs will feature the work and material inspirations of African-American, Afro-Caribbean, and African contemporary artists, including Chakaia Booker, Wangechi Mutu, and Jack Whitten. Learn about Afrofuturism through a toolbox containing books, materials, and prompts to guide creating. Each visit to ColorLab will offer new ways to experiment with art and new ideas to explore. Hands-on programs will be supported by BCM’s teaching artists and educators.

Life Symphony: The Origins - Triskelion Arts

Life Symphony: The Origins by Alternative Synergy Alternative Synergy the Company (ASTC), with two sold-out full productions in 2018, "ASTC The Debut" and "ASTC The Debut Part II," is proud to present yet another phenomenal dance production — Life Symphony: The Origins. The dance performances include a combination of contemporary and street style dance techniques paired with a custom soundtrack by a Brooklyn-based recording artist, Busy Beds, and mixed by Italian sound engineer Good Things Record. Life Symphony: The Origins is character driven, with each story focusing on the struggles of expression of the inner artistic nature. The stories are derived from the choreographers' and dancers' real-life experiences, ranging from sincere to humorous while being universally accessible to audiences of all ages and backgrounds. The hour-long show will see the return of some of "The Debut's" most popular pieces, as well as at least 30 minutes of new, and have never been seen before pieces. The styles include Lite Feet, Popping, Stilettos, House, Flexing and a Contemporary. Life Symphony opens the doors to the exciting ASTC lineup of performances for the company in 2019. A journey into humanity, talent, challenge and community. Directed by Founder and Director of Choreography of ASTC, Amanda Spilinga.

Lloyd H. Miller, founder and frontman of the Deedle Deedle Dees, hosts a new weekly sing-a-long at Hill Country Food Park. The sing-a-long will happen upstairs in the new Hank's. There are two elevators plus a wide staircase. The space itself is large and light-filled with plenty of room to move around.

Visual cues, manipulatives, volume moderation, a wide choice of seating options (rugs, stools, banquets), physical supports, and space for kids to take breaks and do their own thing make this an event that is suited for children with disabilities.

Sensory Room - Brooklyn Children's Museum

Sensory Room is an inclusive space where children of all abilities can engage with their peers and explore their senses. Sessions in the space are balanced between self guided exploration of the space and a facilitated program by one of BCM’s Educators. The program might include story time, a song session, parachute play, or meeting one of the Museum’s live animals.

This room was created with an advisory committee of scholars and professionals with experience serving children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). All are welcome in this space, please let the Educator present know if your child has particular needs or sensitivities.

Space is limited to 10 children and their caregivers for each session, first come, first served.

CP Soccer for Kids With Cerebral Palsy - Cadman Plaza

CP soccer is a league for kids with cerebral palsy, hemiplegia or traumatic brain injury to play soccer with peers just like them. Kids must be ambulatory and be able to run and kick a ball. Training each Sunday by special coaches trained for CP soccer. Boys and girls are welcome and no prior experience with soccer is required.

New York Road Runners Open Run - Pier 6, Brooklyn Bridge Park

Open Run is a new community-based initiative that empowers local volunteers to bring free weekly runs to local neighborhood parks all over NYC. All runs are directed by volunteers and are free to all participants. The finish line is open until the last person is done. The courses vary based on park, but they are between 2½-3 miles.

Participants are encouraged to arrive 15 minutes before the start of the run and to leave their valuables at home as bag check is not provided. No need to do anything before the run, just show up. Open to all ages, experience levels, walkers, strollers, dogs: All are welcome.
