AdvoKids - Long Island Children's Museum

During this month’s AdvoKids, visitors will learn about the removal of indigenous people from their native lands and its long-term impact on Native Americans. Children will have the opportunity to discuss and view treaties designed to protect Native Americans before creating their own treaty to address an issue of concern to them. Every year, the Apple Festival at Mill Neck Manor draws tens of thousands of returning visitors and many more new friends. The festival annually brings the best of the autumn season to Long Island, making a trip to the beautiful Mill Neck campus over Columbus Day weekend irresistible. The 2019 Apple Festival promises to be better than ever, with the return of ripe apples, handmade country crafts, seasonable produce, grilled bratwurst, children’s activities and many more activities throughout the weekend.

Located on the grounds of a historic Gold Coast estate, between Oyster Bay and Bayville, the Apple Festival has it all. Visitors will find a wide variety of cheeses in the “Cheese House,” and plenty of mouth-watering baked goods, jellies, fudge and strudels. The “Country Store” also features meat and bacon products. The children’s activities area will feature a fantastic array of games and activities, as well as face painting and a pumpkin patch. The Apple Festival also showcases the latest in Deaf technology, sign language novelty items and books. Each year, Mill Neck Manor alumni attend the Apple Festival as a “homecoming,” with the event bringing the heart of the Long Island Deaf Community together. Be sure to take a chance on our 50/50! Tickets are only $10 each, and the winner, picked on Sunday at 3 p.m., receives half the net profit of the money collected. Over the years, winners have taken home over $10,000!

Sid Jacobson JCC's Stronger Than Cancer 5K - Sid Jacobson JCC

Sid Jacobson JCC invites community members of all ages to walk, run, and cheer each other on at its 2019 Stronger Than Cancer 5K. The annual event benefits SJJCC's Nancy Marx Cancer Wellness Center (NMCWC) which provides much-needed programming, including exercise classes, discussion groups, counseling services, and more. Programs are open to those living with cancer throughout all stages of treatment and survivorship while helping participants feel active, resilient and empowered in body, mind, and spirit. Thanks to funding from the Stronger Than Cancer 5K and other events such as the JCC's annual Spin Event, most of these vital programs are free to participants. The race will begin on the grounds of Sid Jacobson JCC and travels through Country Estates. The entry fee includes a 5K t-shirt, food and refreshments, and race awards. The race will commence at 9:30 a.m. sharp and takes place rain or shine.

Schoolhouse Rock: an autism-friendly performance - Syosset Public Library
October 13, 2019 - Syosset

A specially designed and adapted performance of Schoolhouse Rock for children with autism and autism spectrum disorders and their families. A calming corner and coping tools will be available during the performance to assist families if necessary. Seats can be reserved by phone or email ( beginning September 16 for families with children on the autism spectrum. Registration will open to all beginning October 1, if space is available.

Spooky Spirits Rogers Mansion - Southampton Historical Museum

For the month of October the Rogers Mansion will be taken over by the spooky spirits of Halloween. Explore our exhibits and learn about Southampton’s past, but be on the lookout for ghouls and ghosts of previous occupants. Was that a creaky old floorboard or the footsteps of Captain Albert Rogers getting ready to leave on a whaling trip? You will have to stop in to find out! The history of the Rogers Mansion starts in 1648 when it was a one room farm house built by the pioneering William Rogers family. Hundreds of Rodger family descendants were born, raised and died on this property. Their spirits are encouraged to participate in this month-long transformation from historic house museum into a haunted house for people of all ages.

Sixteen acres are transformed into a family friendly Halloween event. Wooded paths, exhibits, and festivities on the preserve will be featured, with eerie lighting, special effects, and characters along the way. Everything is perfectly spooky and some are very scary. Children of all ages will be amazed by the 41st Edition of Big Apple Circus that features the world's most celebrated acts. Victor Moiseev presents extraordinary feats of horizontal juggling for the first time in America. The aerial duo, Desire in Flight, returns to the Big Apple Circus after receiving the coveted Golden Clown Award at the Monto Carlo Circus Festival. The Flying Tuniziai's will thrill audiences with not one, but two simultaneous flying trapeze acts side by side, culminating in the quadruple somersault, a feat perfected by only 10 flyers in the history of the world. Horses, dogs, clowns and acrobats will also delight and amaze audiences in the magical one-ring Big Top tent, where no seat is more than fifty feet from the ring. So, step right up and experience Big Apple Circus!

Performance is 2 hours including a 20-minute intermission.

All performances are in our climate-controlled Big Top tent with comfortable arena style tiered seating.

Children under two (2) do not require a ticket but must sit on the lap of an adult. One child per lap.
