On The Blogroll: Donuts, Dresses, and Dirt

The NYMetroParents blogroll features the best blogs in the parenting world, from New York and beyond. Here's a closer look at why we love these mom bloggers and dad bloggers and how they're shaping the web for parenting today.

Blogging From: Westchester, NY

Donuts, Dresses, and Dirt is written by a woman with an avid interest in everything.  Having changed careers as quickly as her dreams, Sheri’s blog is essentially what she does from day to day. She’s active in the city, adventuring into DUMBO for an arts festival or to experience the culture of Brooklyn or Dead Horse Bay (cooler than it sounds) to make light catchers out of old broken bottles. Brooklyn bred, she knows the area like the back of her hands and shares it in each post where she adds a mix of high resolution and Instagram shots that brings her commentary to life.

There are three main tabs that divides her blog. There’s one showcasing her experiences as a mother, another showing off the recipes uses to feed her family, and a diligent documentation of her gardening endeavors. All of her blogs are in first person, deeply rooted in internal dialogue, and utterly straightforward. Her open style leads to a more interesting blog posts. Even the melancholy posts have an optimistic quirk at the end that makes them inspiring and hopeful. This is a blog of a woman who happens to be a mom but concentrates on ‘living a well tended life at any age.’ — Leeann Moreau
