Celebrate Earth Day in New York City With These Interactive Events

Celebrate the earth on this special day!

Earth Day is just about a month away and to celebrate, Earth Day Initiative, a non-profit that promotes environmental awareness, announced a few of the events that will occur during its annual Earth Day celebration taking place on April 15 in Union Square.

Earth Day New York is one of the most popular Earth Day events in the country and it's a great way for kids and families to get involved in some earth-friendly activites here in NYC. On Sunday April 15 from 12-7pm New Yorkers can visit Union Square to take part in many of the great Earth Day events. Over 70 organizations will be on-hand to distribute more than 10,000 samples and educate guests with fun activities and live performances.

Earth Day Initiative is also asking visitors to bring their utility bill so that they may switch to a "simple green lifestyle" as part of its Do Just 1 Things campaign. “I’m routinely asked, ‘what’s one thing I can do to have a positive impact on the environment?’” said Earth Day Initiative Executive Director, John Oppermann in a statement. “The Do Just 1 Thing campaign answers that question. We provide you with one super simple thing you can do to make a big impact.” If you make the switch, you will receive $25 off your next bill.

Other event highlights include:

  • Dozens of exhibitors, including green lifestyle products and services.
  • Live performances, talks, entertainment.
  • Activities for kids and adults Clothing and electronics collection for free recycling by DSNY.
  • Local food and beverage vendors.
  • The world debut of GoGo Cardboard Balance Bike by I.G. Cardboard Technologies, which uses its groundbreaking technology to make products primarily of recycled cardboard and plastic plus organic glue and paint. The GoGo is lighter (5 lbs.), stronger (can hold over 200 lbs.) and greener (made from recycled materials and fully recyclable) than any competitive product on the market.
  • An interactive booth from Korean beauty brand Innisfree will feature its new biodegradable sheet masks. The brand responsibly sources most of its natural ingredients from Jeju, a volcanic island of the coast of Korea. Innisfree is passionate about maintaining the purity of this pristine oasis and is replicating its preservation efforts on Jeju Island globally through reforestation and recycling programs.

Also, on Friday, April 20th, you can take part in the 4th annual Earth Day 5K Green Tour. According to the website, "New Yorkers are invited to get outside and visit green organizations around the city. The tour will include a visit to a living green wall and a Broadway theater that's going green, among other unique destinations." This event is a great way for New Yorkers to find out where they can donate to keep the Earth Day enthusiasm going through out the year.
