East-West Music Studio has two new programs for children, ages 6 through high school, to participate in during the summer and the school year. The programs include an after-school children’s chorus and a summer music program.

The children’s chorus is a once a week and children learn basic singing techniques, such as ear training—it enables children to identify pitches and chords solely by hearing the music—through a listening and singing curriculum. The semester culminates with a concert held at East-West’s Ames Concert Hall. “It’s a fun and joyful class for children,” says Jay Liu, music director. “Having the children perform on stage is an important part in music education.”

The summer program consists of music lessons, rehearsals, string ensembles, and an end of the program music festival. (Starting date was not available at press time.) Music theory classes are required for this program. There is also chamber music group where students can form of a group of three, four, or five, and they are assigned a repertoire to work on with a music coach.

East-West also offers an after-school program where children can practice music and work on homework with the help of on-site teachers. Professional music education is available for middle school students who are preparing to enter an arts high school.
