East Woods Camp, located in Oyster Bay, appointed Jo Korder as the camp director at the end of 2014 for the 2015 summer season. Korder has more than 20 years of experience working at and operating day and sleepaway camps in upstate New York and is the lead teacher at a nearby elementary school for the past 15 years.

“Education is my profession,” Korder says. “My area of expertise has always been teaching grade-school children.”

Located on 46 acres of land, East Woods offers a wide array of age-appropriate activities for children ages 2-15. Options include cooking, sports, cheerleading, archery, chess, a water slip-n-slide, arts and crafts, and dance. Campers older than 5 will have instructional and free swim daily. Counselors are college-aged and older, and the camp keeps a 1-to-10 counselor-to-camper ratio.

Korder stresses that East Woods is fun for the child but affordable for the parents. “We’re in the ballpark of giving your child a very special summer experience while at the same time making it something you don’t have to save up for the entire year,” Korder says.

The camp is offered in two three-week programs: June 29-July 17 and July 20-Aug. 7. Each three-week session runs in half-day (9am-12pm) and full-day (9am-3pm) schedules. Space is still available.
