July 4: Old-Fashioned Fun
Enjoy an old-fashioned Independence Day Celebration at Sagamore Hill National Historic Site in Oyster Bay, including music, storytelling, and more, at the home of former president Theodore Roosevelt. Bring lawn chairs or a blanket. Food will be available for purchase. FREE!
July 7: And the Rockets’ Red Glare…
Catch a Fireworks and Concert event at Mill River/Centennial Park in Rockville Centre, which includes performances by the South Shore Symphony and a troupe of young dancers followed by a fireworks display. Bring a blanket, chairs, and picnic dinner (or purchase from vendors) to the celebration. FREE!
July 8: Sounds of Freedom
Enjoy a series of American standards sure to raise your patriotic pride at the Garden State Philharmonic’s Americana Concert at Sands Point Preserve. Bring a blanket and a picnic basket.
July 11: American Legends
No one can sit still when the Harlem Renaissance Orchestra strikes its first note. Jazz standards from legends like Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and Lionel Hampton will fill the air at Old Westbury Gardens during this concert.

Join an outdoor Storybook Stroll at Old Westbury Gardens on July 7 and keep cool as you read the beloved book “The Snowy Day” by Ezra Jack Keats.

Too Much of a Good Thing
Pinkalicious loves pink—everything pink, but especially scrumptious pink cupcakes. Her parents have warned her to stop eating them, but Pinkalicious happily chomps on until she turns pink from head to toe and ends up in the doctor’s office with a condition called pinkititis. Little Farm Hands
Kids will have plenty to do at the 4th annual Fun On The Farm Day at Wickham’s Fruit Farm, hosted by LilChefs.com. They’ll take a ride in a farm wagon, pick lots of seasonal fruit (and probably eat some along the way!), learn how to make jams and desserts for a picnic lunch, watch farmhands milk the goats, and find out how cheese is made. Registration required.
July 24-25
Teachers Rock
So you think teachers aren’t cool? Think again. Recess Monkey, a group of teacher-rockers from Seattle, brings its special brand of hip, kid-friendly music and humor to the Long Island Children’s Museum this month, offering circus-themed tunes from its new CD In Tents along with a host of favorite “get up and dance” jams. You can also join the Monkey Bar conga line, slip and slide at the Bubble Factory, and get a good giggle from the knock-knock jokes, puns, and shenanigans that these three teachers (obviously on recess) will toss your way.
