father's dayIt doesn’t seem fair to make Dad man the barbecue on his special day (June 16), so why not try one of these low-key options this Father’s Day?

Make Dad a Gift for Father’s Day

From June 10-15, children are invited to drop by the Pottery Barn Kids store at The Westchester in White Plains to create a special Father’s Day Card for Dad or Grandpa.

Make Father’s Day a Family Fun Day

Head to Yonkers on June 16 for a Family Day on Father’s Day at the Hudson River Museum. There will be family gallery tours for ages 4-12 at 1:30pm and 3pm. From 1-4pm, participate in family art projects (make Victorian wallpaper with found objects) and take pictures together to turn into souvenir photo strips. And at 3:30pm, experience L’Amore della Music, in which five orchestra members give an hour-long performance featuring classical music.

Get Out and Play on Father’s Day

Bring Dad to the Greenburgh Nature Center in Scarsdale on June 16 to meet some cool critters up close and learn how they play at Papa’s Play Day! Then go outside for some games and fun activities at the new Nature’s Discovery Playground.

Walk on the Wild Side this Father’s Day

Throw Daddy to the Wolves! And by that we mean bring him to the Wolf Conservation Center in South Salem on the holiday, where you’ll learn about the mythology, biology, and ecology of wolf families, then get out and meet the wolves. The center’s 7-week-old ambassador wolf pup will also be on view, so don’t forget a camera! (Registration is required.)

Go Fish for Father’s Day

Dads and their kids (ages 5-12) can enjoy a special Father’s Day Fishing event at Westmoreland Sanctuary in Mount Kisco. The Sanctuary suspends its “No Fishing” policy for one day a year, and this is it! Interested participants must register by June 14 and supply their own equipment and bait. All fishing is catch-and-release only. Space is limited to 15 children.

Create Something Together for Father’s Day

Celebrate Father’s Day and the start of summer with a Family Art Project (June 15-16) at Wave Hill in the Bronx, where kids can make special T-shirts with their dads in mind.

Take Dad Out to the Ball Game

If Dad’s a baseball fan, round up the rest of the family and head to a minor league baseball game for Father’s Day. The tickets are more affordable, and you’ll get the chance to watch up-and-coming players in a family-friendly atmosphere (many minor league parks host meet-and-greets with the players and let kids run the bases after games). Check out our guide to minor league baseball parks in the NYC area to find one near you.
