Learning Center Announces Winners of Annual Math Olympiad

The 2016 JEI Math Olympiad was held on March 19 and winners were recently announced. It was held at Queens Community College and had roughly 950 participants nationwide, up from 700 participants in 2015.

Students from New Jersey, New York, Texas, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, California, and Toronto (Canada) participated this year. Students in grades 1-8 were invited to participate and there were local winners from Auberndale and Herricks and merit winners from Fresh Meadows and Great Neck.

The domains of the 2016 test shifted from the 2015 test and included were questions on numbers, operations, geometry and measurement, problem solving, and algebraic thinking.  Each of these domains had roughly eight questions for each of the grade levels.

Additionally, there was a format change where the 2016 Math Olympiad focused more on computational questions from our JEI workbooks.

The Math Olympiad event is just one of many activities that are offered at JEI to students in order to have school subjects feel more dynamic.
