Rising New York Road Runners is a free youth fitness program in NYC and nationwide

New York Road Runners recently announced that Olympian Jenny Simpson will serve as ambassador and special advisor for its new, free fitness program for kids, Rising New York Road Runners.

In this role Simpson will mentor kids and act as an advocate for the importance of fitness in a child's life. She will also share her knowledge with and act as a resource for other coaches across the country.

Rising New York Road Runners will help kids build their running skills and will also introduce new skills to them as they grow. In addition, it will instill the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle for life.

“This is personal for me," Simpson said in a press release. "I discovered running through an elementary school program and experienced the positive benefits that fitness programs like Rising New York Road Runners can have on creating a lasting relationship with running on young people. I’m at a point in my career where I want to make an impact beyond my performance on the track. Partnering with NYRR and serving as Ambassador and Special Advisor to Rising New York Road Runners is a wonderful opportunity to connect with the next generation about living a healthy and active life while supporting the coaches who are so critical to the program’s success. I’m excited to become a part of the New York Road Runners team,” Simpson said.

The Rising New York Road Runners program will launch this fall and offer free youth running programs to children in pre-K through 12th grade across the country. Its goal is to help children build skills and enjoy being active so that they carry a love of movement into adulthood.

"Jenny Simpson’s participation as our new Ambassador and Special Advisor to Rising New York Road Runners will inspire kids in public school programs to become active in the same way she became inspired to run as a child, and we are thrilled to have her join the New York Road Runners family,” said Rachel Pratt, senior vice president of youth and community services of NYRR, in a statement.
