On Dec. 6, Landmark Preschool opened its renovated facility on the Ridgefield Academy campus, which now hosts more spacious classrooms, a multipurpose gathering room, a performance space, and a learning kitchen. The Landmark Preschool, which is an affiliate of Ridgefield Academy, welcomes kids ages 2-5 to engage in purposeful learning experiences to explore a new world in a safe environment. With a low student-to-teacher ratio, the school is “based on the belief that children benefit from a joyful introduction of learning,” says Kara Morgan, owner and director of advancement.

“Our planning committee rethought about what kind of environment young children strive in best. We came up with wide-open, uncluttered spaces, lots of natural light, and easy access to the outdoors since we spend as much time as we can outside,” says Tara Simeonidis, director of Landmark Preschool.

Each classroom now has a Hatch SmartBoard, its own bathroom, and cubbies for students’ belongings. The Pod is the school’s new gathering place and boasts an amphitheater for drama and music classes, a gardening center for hands-on activities, and an art space to promote creativity. The Learning Kitchen was created so students can “learn to cook and cook to learn,” Morgan says.
