Special Education Attorney Brad Rosken Moves Practice to Melville

Brad Rosken, a special education attorney on Long Island, has moved his practice, Law Offices of Brad H. Rosken, P.L.L.C., to 534 Broadhollow Road, Suite 275, in Melville. Rosken’s practice, formerly located in Huntington, specializes in education, school, and disability law for students.

Rosken provides an array of legal services for parents of children with special needs. Primarily, he helps parents understand and work with local school districts to provide the best education for their child. This includes preparing parents for meetings in which school districts discuss what they feel is appropriate to meet a child’s needs. According to Rosken, the meetings don’t always provide all available options for programs or services for children with special needs.

“They’re not necessarily going to give you all the potential options and choices that exist out there, so someone like myself can offer suggestions,” Rosken says. “When parents of children with disabilities go to these meetings and the district explains what it is that they are going to provide for their child, they’re basically explaining what they want to do or what they think is best, not necessarily what may be best or what may be out there.”

Rosken, who sometimes accompanies parents to these meetings, provides counsel as to whether or not parents are being given all the options for services available for their child.

“It’s beneficial to bring someone like myself, an objective individual, to the meeting,” Rosken says. “It’s not their [the objective individual’s] own child—it’s very hard when it’s your own child, it’s very emotional to say ‘hey, the district is not doing right by you, we should also be asking for this,’ or ‘the district is giving you everything that they are legally obligated to give you so maybe we don’t have a case.’”

Rosken also provides counsel for disciplinary matters when a child gets in trouble at school; testing accommodations; support for issues pertaining to failures of the Americans with Disabilities Act; accommodations for students with disabilities in school, camp, or college; and a variety of other special education issues.
