Mars Rover to Make Final Landing at the Intrepid Museum’s Space and Science Festival

See a Mars rover concept vehicle, visit a massive NASA expo, meet astronauts, and more at the sixth annual Space and Science Festival at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum.

The 2017 Space and Science Festival will celebrate space and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum Tuesday, Aug. 1 through Sunday, Aug. 6.

There will be many interactive activities and exhibitions for visitors to enjoy, including a presentation by NASA astronaut Shane Kimbrough and a screening of Hidden Figures, followed by a NASA panel discussion. NASA Space Trainer and virtual reality experiences, as well as interactive displays from the Intergalactic Travel Bureau and Honeybee Robotics will be open to guests. A free Family Astronomy Night and a free movie showing of The Martian will take place on the flight deck.

The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex’s Mars rover concept vehicle will make its final Summer of Mars Experience Tour landing at the Space and Science Festival Aug. 3-6. It is the main attraction of the tour and was custom-built to inform and motivate people about intergalactic travel and exploration.

“The Intrepid Museum’s Pier 86 will welcome NASA’s Summer of Mars Experience, where visitors can get an up-close look at the Mars rover concept vehicle, a 5,500-pound, nearly 11-foot tall rover built to handle the climate, conditions, and environment on the Red Planet as they are currently understood,” according to a press release from the Intrepid Museum. The experience will also include educational and interactive games to teach guests about plant life and habitats on Mars, virtual reality components, giveaways, and plenty of photo opportunities.

All activities on the Intrepid Museum’s Pier 86 are free, except for the exhibition Drones: Is the Sky the Limit? Visitors can enjoy all the activities and presentations in the Intrepid Museum and Space Shuttle Pavilion for free with museum admission.
