Mathnasium students each get their own lesson plan that aims to improve their math weaknesses.

Mathnasium, a math-only learning center, is now offering new Friday hours year-round, as well as summer hours until August 31—Monday through Friday from 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 7pm. Mathnasium understands that math is not always the easiest subject, so it aims to aid students learning in a relaxed, fun-filled environment.

Mathnasium’s mission is to make math make sense and help students in first through 12th grade catch up, keep up, or get ahead. After taking a brief assessment, students come to the center for an hour twice a week to work on the areas they struggle with, such as fractions, decimals, algebra, geometry, probability, and trigonometry. After completing the assigned exercises, the tutor goes over them with the student to ensure that he or she really understands what is being taught.

“A lot of times, children are taught math in a procedural manner and teachers don’t have time to explain why you do this or why you do that, they just tell you what to do and whatever you get is the answer. Children don’t always understand why,” says owner John Lee. “Without truly understanding how they got the answer, in the long run, they are not going to do well.”
