Mathnasium Opens a Port Washington Location

Mathnasium, a math-centric learning center with programs for kindergarteners to college-bound teenagers, expanded to Port Washington.

Specializing in one-on-one tutoring from teachers who are certified in-house, students are invited to focus on “all things math” when they come to Mathnasium. This can mean gaining a stronger understanding of their classwork, getting access to more challenging material, or cramming for a test the following day. To gauge each student’s current mathematics foundation and ability, each student is given a two-part assessment, oral and written, when they first come in.

“If a student comes to us and they can read, write, and sit at a table for an hour, we can work with them,” says Center Director Suneet Jain. Plus, that’s a flexible hour. If a student does have a math test the next day, Jain says, instructors are more than willing to stretch 60 minutes to 90, if needed.

Mathnasium is open year-round, Monday-Thursday, 3-7pm and Sunday, 11am-3pm. Particularly now that the school year is almost over, Mathnasium expects to see an influx of kids stopping by after day camp. “After camp they’re physically tired, but we can still give them a good mental workout,” says Jain. “Parents want their students to be engaged throughout the day, and so our hours accommodate students.”

For high schoolers looking to sharpen their skills ahead of any big tests, from Regents exams to the SATs, Mathnasium offers tailored test prep programs to give them an edge on exam day.

Currently, Mathnasium offers math instruction on everything from simple addition and subtraction to Algebra II and Pre-Calc, but curriculum could expand to include classes on robotics, 3D modeling and design, computer programming, and more, according to Jain. Keep an eye out for updates from Mathnasium as they refine their offerings in Port Washington!
