Gym and Education Center Partners with Theater Workshop

M.A.T.S.S. Kids' Gym & Early Childcare Education Center of Syosset will soon be offering a theater arts program.

M.A.T.S.S. Kids' Gym & Early Childcare Education Center of Syosset will be offering a theater arts program for children ages 3-16, which is scheduled to start Sept. 11. These new offerings are a result of a partnership with  Wendy Taubman's Stars of Tomorrow, a children's theater workshop. Together, the businesses will offer programs such as song and dance, musical theater, improvisation, TV commercial auditioning, acting, and fitness.

“This kind of programming teaches kids independence, boosts their self-esteem, and makes them comfortable speaking in front of people,” says Nancy J. Wohlsen, the director and owner of M.A.T.S.S. in Syosset.

Formerly located on Robbins Lane in Syosset, Wendy Taubman's Stars of Tomorrow has moved its entire base to M.A.T.S.S. Kids' Gym & Early Childcare Education Center of Syosset, so all of the new programs will be held at this location. This is the first year Stars of Tomorrow will be offering classes for children ages 3-4, giving young kids an introduction to song and dance. Through these classes children will learn the basics of how to hold a microphone, where to look, and how to feel comfortable on stage.

M.A.T.S.S. Kids' Gym—which stands for movement, aerobics, tumbling, sports, and skills—offers a variety of programs for children, including day care, early childhood education, gymnastics, and enrichment classes. There are two locations on Long Island: Syosset and Bellmore. The business was started by four mothers with young children in Nassau County in 1985. The mission of M.A.T.S.S. Kids' Gym includes making sure every student walks out of its doors feeling better about themselves than when they walked in, using programming as a therapeutic vehicle to help children build confidence and self-esteem.

“Our philosophy is simple, to provide a rainbow of quality and affordable programs to play, learn, and grow all under one roof,” Wohlsen says.

Registration is open for Wendy Taubman's Stars of Tomorrow and other programs at M.A.T.S.S. Kids' Gym & Early Childcare Education Center of Syosset. Children already enrolled at M.A.T.S.S. Kids' Gym and others from the community can join.
