Memorial Day is observed on Monday, May 28 this year and is a federal holiday to honor and remember the brave men and women who served our country’s armed forces and military. Get into the spirit of patriotism and remembrance by celebrating Memorial Day all weekend long at one of these events happening in Manhattan, including Memorial Day crafts, movie screenings, scavenger hunts, exhibits, and festivals around Chelsea, Governors Island, Midtown, and the Upper West Side. Also see where to celebrate Memorial Day across the New York City area, including Brooklyn and QueensWestchester and Rockland counties, and Long Island.


FREE Summer Movie Series
WHEN: Friday, May 25, 7pm 
WHERE: Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, Pier 86, West 46th Street and 12th Avenue, Chelsea
WHAT: The Intrepid Summer Movie Series returns this summer with a selection of six feature films. People are invited to bring lawn chairs, picnic baskets, and blankets to the Intrepid Museum to view the films outdoors on a huge inflatable screen on the Flight Deck of the historic aircraft carrier. The movie series will open with the annual screening of Top Gun to kick off Memorial Day weekend.

Living History: Memorial Day Weekend

WHERE: DiMenna Children's Museum at New-York Historical Society, 170 Central Park W., Upper West Side
WHAT: Celebrate the opening of the exhibition Rockwell, Roosevelt, & the Four Freedoms. Living Historians portraying Americans from the Second World War will be stationed in the gallery to answer your questions in honor of Memorial Day.

The Amazing Fleet Week Scavenger Hunt

FREE Family Fun Day Festival

WHAT: Held over Memorial Day Weekend, this outdoor festival features award-winning live music and theatrical performances, storytelling, arts and crafts, science and nature workshops, ice cream and snacks, a build-your-own playground, and more.

Memorial Day Weekend at CMoM
WHEN: May 26-28, Saturday-Monday, 8am-5pm
WHERE: Children's Museum of Manhattan, 212 W. 83rd St., Upper West Side
WHAT: Celebrate Memorial Day weekend with two workshops. Create Zines for Change to learn about famous activists and highlight a change you want to see in the world. Then create a red, white, and blue fizzling firework by using science to make tiny explosions of color on paper.

WHAT: Now in its 30th year, Fleet Week is a celebration of the sea services, and an opportunity for New Yorkers to meet sailors, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen.
