Mind Over Matter Health & Fitness brought workout alternatives to students at Brooklyn School of Inquiry this past school year. The company also offers trainers, classes, and boot camps.


The Manhattan-based fitness company taught the New York City students workout alternatives, including yoga, boxing, and dance classes (Zumba, hip-hop). By teaching fitness alternatives not typically offered in physical education curriculums, Mind Over Matter Health & Fitness hopes to decrease childhood obesity and introduce students to different fitness disciplines.

“We're eager to branch out to more schools, public and private,” says Joshua Margolis, owner of Mind Over Matter Health & Fitness.  

Mind Over Matter Health & Fitness is designed to cater to the client’s personal needs in regard to location, time, and fitness level. The company has more than 20 trainers and offers a variety of classes such as yoga, Pilates, and boxing, as well as private in-home fitness training and boot camps. Workouts take place across Manhattan, outdoors in parks and other locations throughout the city. Some new boot camp locations include Tribeca, Washington Square Park, the Upper West Side, and the Upper East Side.

Mind Over Matter Health & Fitness's boot camps are organized in small groups of five to six people and take place all throughout the day. The small groups are constructed based off an individual’s fitness level and exercises can be adapted to the individual’s needs. The stroller boot camp encourages mothers to exercise while spending time with baby and incorporates power walking, strength training, and more. The fitness company also offers mommy-and-me yoga.

“People want to know what the best workout is, but the best workout is the one you actually do. You have to find the [fitness] discipline that will resonate with you so you will enjoy it and actually do it. The diversity of our staff makes finding that discipline possible to achieve your fitness goals,” Margolis says.
